Taking Pebbles to France

We have just bought our Cali from now on known as Pebbles We will be taking her to France in a couple of weeks and would love to hear your advice and what helped you most as this will be our first tour

What has helped most?
This forum!
Cleaning it thoroughly before leaving. This way you get to know your Cali well.
Bring the instruction manual.
Talk to other Cali owners. They've given me a lot of tips.

Bring a bottle of wine ;-)

Hi vis for each person in the van. Safety triangle. Headlight beam benders or the VW protectors with the shading on are better as they can be reused and just clip on. Adapter for the cable for our 3 pin to possible 2 pin in foreign parts.
A LiberT tag for the tolls if you are travelling a lot on the motorways is handy to avoid queues. French holidays have started now so it could be busy at the tolls.
Get the All the Aires of France book. Most are free, some good, some grotty but well worth having. All towns and most villages have one. Easy to have a look at them on Google Earth.
Don't buy fuel on the motorways, it's nearly always cheaper to come off and find somewhere. Not as many filling stations in France though so don't run low.

Go over with minimal diesel and fill up in France....much cheaper. Oh and we always fill to the brim before we get back on the ferry to come home.

Take a spare 907 gas with you if going for any length of time or likely to be running low.....last summer we went to loads of places before we found one.

It's a joy to drive on the French roads.

Watch out for much stricter drink drive rules, especially hot on next morning....

And most of all.....enjoy you won't want to come home.

If you are driving past a patisserie stop for cake. Look out for the witching hour. Everything shuts from 12 - 2 so makesure you have bought your fresh crispy baguette before then...
