Directional aerial. It can work over very long distances in line of sight. I’ve managed to switch on the Parking Heater from the top of Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons with my California in the car park at the bottom. Well over a mile away if not 2 miles.

I know that it's capable of switching on the parking heater in my Cali from my bedroom, a distance of about twenty yards (or eighteen metres if you prefer) and it's one of the most convenient features associated with the vehicle as far as I am concerned.
