Anybody here had to fit a tracker for there insurance. My fleet policy insurers want Tracker fitted but Comfort Insurance do not. How does that work especially when there is only £24 difference in the premiums.

I'm with comfort who only insure motor homes ...some want tracker some don't. It doesn't make them better insurers as they asked for tracker ... Personally bin the tracker boys .. It's alot of time and money to save very little and as I've said before if my Cali gets stolen and wrecked I don't want it back , so no tracker for me. :)
Also it's a very specialist market and not really targeted by the car boosters

I'm n the no tracker camp too. I don't see significant enough saving to warrant the outlay.

I fitted a tracker for mine.

Having had a car returned with no damage in the past kinda made up my mind. That said until the insurance asked for one it didn't spring to mind on the Cali.

My son did mention when I got it fitted it was a good idea that T5's in London are getting nicked by the bucket load (he's a mechanic down there).

On Skye not so much an issue as Sheep cannot drive :)

I had a Tracker fitted when the van was new. It was a no brainer as I got a very good deal when we had a fleet of new vehicles at work. Now, three years later, my first renewal is due. £399 for a year!

Technology may have moved on - are there other viable alternatives?

Thanks for any advice...

I have a very cheap alternative installed in my bongo (sorry for swearing!) they're currently going missing at a alarming rate- take a look on Ebay - for around £40 you can get a little GPS receiver that hard wires into the vehicle and takes a pay as you go sim card, you ring the GPS from your smart phone and it texts you the GPS coordinates and a link to google maps - one of the best £40 I've spent - probably not recognised by the insurance companies - but great for seeing where the other half has been! :laugh2

I can post a link if needs be....

Cheers
Nick

Thanks for the feedback - I rang Tracker and they confirmed that it is actually £399 for 3 years. So I've paid the money...

Trackers have moved on as are the methods the crooks use.

The latest for both was stick the car in a big Faraday cage and it cannot be tracked. Cat 6 Tracker has some way of working even under these circumstances.

£399 for one year renewal? :censor
