Treating roof struts

After getting our cali back from its roof corrosion repair I thought I'd give it a good examination, and it dawned on me that the roof struts (front and scissor) were showing some signs of ageing, not exactly going rusty but looking like they could if left much longer.
I've oiled the joints annually but never done anything with the struts themselves, can anyone suggest some kind of maintenance that will preserve them?

Smashing cheers for that Californiaman. Would the aerosol be best?

It's worth checking for corrosion of the roof bolts too (see photos). If left it could lead to further damage.

I found two bolts that were rusting (one worse than the other) when the van was just 9 months old. All the others around the roof were pristine.

The garage thought that the 2 rusty bolts were defective when manufactured. Part of a duff batch perhaps.
