Hi, long story short, I need a VW specialist or someone that really knows Webasto heaters. Whether that be from VAG work or wiring issues or what have you, I am desperate to find out whether the heater is knackered or I have other issues. I have no interest in trying to self diagnose it, I would just love to hear of someone that really is clued up on them. I am in Reading but would drive a good couple of hours to meet the right person!

Which vehicle do you have and what is the problem?

07 Plate california 2.5 diesel. My heater started constantly running and wouldnt stop. I bought a replacement second VW heater, completely like for like. I was assured it works. A chap installed it, the heater initially comes on but doesnt heat up and then goes out. It says open circuit. I have a VAG guy obtaining the wiring system as he is going to check the wiring but he isnt a webasto expert. He will be able to check wiring but I cant help wonder if a VW specialist would be a better bet. However a couple I have spoken to dont seem anymore clued up to the webasto heaters. I need someone to work out whether the heater I bought is duff (as can get money back) or it is something with my car. I would actually rather the heater is working but something with my car to be the issue as the heaters are bloody expensive to buy new etc

Speak to PF Jones. Google them.

Try Carwoods they repaired a Eberspacher on a T4 for me years ago when the dealers couldn't do it and they do list Webasto amongst their products.

Most yacht, boat, canal boat repairers should be able to assist or will know someone that can.

I feel that is a con, I think if you read manufacturers info on Webasto & Ebersapcher they will indicate if heaters are run at full output occasionally and fuelled with normal auto diesel frequent servicing is un-necessary.
The Eberspacher in my previous T6 was trouble free having been treated like this after seven years use.

Agree. Mine's now 9+ years old and still going strong.

thank you very much. have reached out. For those saying about boat repairers etc, even Paul at Webasto (nice bloke) has said it needs to be a specialist with vag coms. Actually he has encouraged I bin the heater and get an after market but I am not wanting to give up yet!

sadly oldiebut goodie said he doesnt deal with vag com and to ask on forum. Didnt suggest any specific companies

The ECU in a Webasto fitted to a VW is unique to VW as it integrates with the VW controller via canbus but as far as I am aware the actual heater is physically the same as any other of that output (kW). I also believe a 2.2kW Eberspacher is also physically interchangeable.
In the campers that I have built I have always used Eberspacher the current one in our MAN TGE is a 4kW version with the newer Easystart Select controller to which I have fitted an external thermostat.

interesting re the eberspacher. For some reason I remain desperate to get the webasto running!

I was thinking more the fact that they may be able to repair the heater.

That surprises me, have you tried any of the UK locations in this web page? https://carwood.co.uk/contact-us/#locations

It was the Birmingham site that did the work for me.

I know it may be a long way from you but you may like to try Bowers at Stoke on Trent They have supplied Eberspachers and also carried out warranty work for me.
After telling me the garage was shut they rang back and said Coventry office could help. Called them and he said they dont have vag tech thingy so couldnt help. I would go almost anywhere I am that desperate so will speak to Bowers
