VW Shower Tent

That awning rail is only glued on, just saying, wouldn’t want to put anything too heavy on there, great idea though
Indeed, I think it’s rated to 25-30kg. The privacy room is less that 7kg (ARB maybe slightly heavier). I used four brackets to distribute the weight along the full length. Had mine on for 2 years now including a reasonable amount of off-road, dirt track driving with no issues. I also have molle panels with recovery boards that use the same rail. Probably wouldn’t want to drive 100’s of miles on corrugated roads but for general use and a bit of soft roading it’s been rock solid so far

Been looking for a solution myself this might fit the bill

Here's a couple of pics. We used it as a shower tent, with the porta-potti in the other toilet tent. That meant the toilet tent stayed dry, and any dampness in the ARB stayed outside. Normally we end up putting away a damp shower tent into the van, which we then try have to try and keep away from our bedding.

Thumbs up from the family.

Tested out the Nudie Boss 2.0 this week (as shown earlier). Sensational! Sets up in under a minute and packs up in under a minute with absolutely no faffing! Attached it to the side rail with 4 x galv M6 coach bolts and barricade brackets (as suggested above). Travelled 2,000 km on back roads, still as solid as anything. Only weighs just under 8kg which is well under the side rail weight rating.

Oh, and the resident campground horse approved as well!

Great set up. I’m envious of the roof but I’ll keep telling myself I won’t be using it in foul weather anyway! Do you mind me asking what you paid for it, in case I look to upgrade my Direct 4x4 one in the future…

$349 AUD (£167). Paid around another $30 for the brackets and screws to fit it to the side rail.
