My T6.1 Ocean (2021 DSG 4 Motion -18000 miles) has started to come up with the following message on the display when driving off - "Only leave in position P. Please visit workshop" and amber warning triangle on display soon after starting. So far has reset itself after driving and switching the ignition off and back on.
Any ideas what's the issue here? Anyone had similar?
Not really able to go to dealer at the moment as in Sweden but doesn't appear to be a major issues atm.

That message normally comes up if the drivers door is open and the vehicle is in Drive (hand brake applied) !

any issue with a drivers door not locking or closing correctly?

edit turn the van on put it in drive, whilst applying the brakes open the drivers door, do you get the same message?
now take your foot off the brakes whilst the hand brake is applied (to prevent the vehicle moving) ?
do you get the message in either instance?

edit : check hand brake warning is working correctly?

I have it. It’s been going on and off for the last month.
I’ve got an appointment to fix it in 10 days.

It’s a known issue for vw/skoda/Audi DSG gearbox.

Yes it's a DSG sensor problem, I had the same issue. It was intermittent and I had to wait 3 weeks to book it in, I was assured it wasn't critical and it was duly fixed under warrantee. An odd thing though when I described the issue to the dealer they insisted I called WV assist out who diagnosed and then gave the dealer the details.

I had it once with my new Cali after moving the van in neutral, accidently knocking it into manual and moving the leve back again. ( I quite often push the van a few feet in the garage and don't want the wear of casual engine starts). Fixed by selecting manual after diving off and then back to auto.

It's a fault. Mine has been fixed at dealer.

did you finally fix it ??

I’m my case it what’s the stick it self. They have to change it entirely

1100€ in Spain
But I cry a little bit and told them that is not normal that this happens to a 30k car with only 2 years.

So at the end VW pay for a part of the repair and total was around 470€ total

No charge in UK clearly guarantee work. All fixed now.

Different warranty periods for U.K. and Europe.
3 yrs in U.K. ( 2yrs by VW and 1 year VWUK/ Dealership network ). In Europe just 2 yrs by VW.

Oh dear. Sorry you had to shell out for it.

I have had this with my 2015 diesel Golf, as I come down a slight incline. It just flashes on and off briefly. Then gone again. Been a thing for years, and VW said it wasn’t anything to worry about.

For the golf is plenty of videos for the fix. I’m that case is just a sensor.
For the California es the entire stick

Hello. I wonder what's the process to complain and request the fix to be included as a "campaign" since it's a widespread dessign issue. Any ideas?

Ours started to do exactly the same about 2 mths ago; it would clear / reset after a drive, but the error always came back sooner or later.

Our car is under warranty (Aug 21), so we visited the dealer, who concluded that it needed ‘a new gear lever’.

It went in last week, and all is now OK.

No matter how hard I tried, the most detail the dealer team could give me was that the cockpit / cabin gear lever assembly (complete) needed changing - I presume, but have no idea, that a sensor or some circuitry was iffy - certainly all continued to work normally mechanically in spite of the error messages.

As it still does now, but WITHOUT the tedious dash errors.

Just get it booked in under warranty & the relevant info is then recorded with VW
From memory the 3rd brake light falling out the tailgate took about 5 years from it being noticed as a widespread problem to VW adding it as replacement campaign when the vehicle was in for a service.

Yes, if something on your car doesn’t work, then don’t worry too much if / who else might have had the same problem, but just go in, tell them, and ask for it to be dealt with under warranty.

Works for me ;-) !
