I am looking at engine options for the beach..
I was also considering chiptuning and I discovered this Dutch chiptuning site where they tune all the 2.0 TDI (single turbo) engines (84 hp, 102hp, 114hp, 140hp) to 178hp and 410NM.
Which is higher than the 180hp Bi-Turbo version.

Too good to be true? I would obviously go for the 84hp then, and save 8K EUR.

Expect you would fully invalidate your VW warranties.

For the engine part, of course. For 8K profit I am willing to take the risk. The 84hp engine must be a downtuned version of the 140hp.
Meanwhile, I found a second site claiming the same. 84hp to 175hp

I think remapping to 175 bhp would not do a 85 bhp engine much good
i don't think the 85 hp engine is the same as the 140 i think it is the same as the 104hp
I may be wrong

Brakes, clutch, gearbox, driveshafts........??

You sound convinced though so don't let us put you off.........

Actually it was a camper dealer (specialised in california) who suggested me to do this.
Another reason is that we are being taxed on the list price of the car times a CO2 related constant. High CO2 and high list price and tax goes x4 or even x8. It's ridiculous: every 1000 EUR list price yields another 129 EUR in taxes per year. I'm planning to keep it for 10years. Saving 8K on the purchase price will "save" me 18K in total over 10 years, if all goes well. That's it: IF. No, I'm not convinced. I am interested in stories of others who did chiptuning on the California.

Check out your insurance too - you may find it is hard to get proper cover. Don't forget to upgrade the brakes too - there is probably a reason that the 180 comes with much bigger disks!

The options may be different in Belgium but in the UK the Beach is only sold in 114 or 140 engine outputs. The 114 has a 5speed gearbox and the 140 a 6 speed gearbox (or DSG).
