Wooden cutting board

CaliSolar.ch is selling a wooden cutting board that fits over the gas hobs.
This would be quite easy DIY so I was wondering if anyone had any measurements or recommendations for the thickness (or any good alternatives). I would buy it if it wasn't like 99€ excluding shipping...

Can't help with the chopping board but some neat stuff there - another site to lead us into temptation!
