You can see tyre track at the bottom of the picture, half on the road and half on the verge.
France has seen a lot of rain, same as us the past two winters.

Not so sure. That track pattern is more reminiscent of a tractors rear tyre. The expanation is still valid though.

Agree, the previous track mark, looks like a tractor or something with a more aggressive tread pattern.
Those French roads can feel very tight at times. All it takes is a wheel to slip out for the worst to happen.
Looks nasty, hope the occupants are ok.
