T6 Cali On Order
Hi, me and my wife are looking to place an order for a California ocean in the next week or so. I'm still in the process of picking colours and options so this forum will be invaluable for making the right decision.
This will be our first California but I've owned a transporter, that I've converted myself, for just over a year now.
Any hints and tips for getting the best deal and choosing the right options/colour would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.
Luke and Beth.

Well, we placed our order the week the dealer closed for Christmas and got the discount we wanted. Not sure if it really helped but they did seem in a rush to get off to the Xmas party and weren't too worried about haggling.

Hi,
I'm in Shrewsbury and have has a new 150 Ocean DSG with a longish list of options, for 4 weeks now. I'm thrilled with it after owing other PVCs, A Class, etc.
Happy to show you round it and discuss if you PM me.
Alan.

There are certain options you will probably list as necessary (for me paint, DSG, parking sensors and tinted glass and sat nav). Then there will be a list of nice to haves such as cruise control etc

This might help you in meeting your budget as things can spiral out of control....

The base van is very well equipped to be fair. We tried to keep the spec to a minimum and the only two things I really wished I'd had were

1/Headlights. LED. Standard lights are rubbish!

2/Cruise control. Thought I'd get away without it as I had DSG but in long trips it would have been nice.

Other than that I am very happy. Though I did fork out on some nice wheels and lowered suspension to go with the Oryx white paint.

Good luck with you choices and order.

Think most people seem to get about 7%. There is athread on the average discount if you search.

Hi Alan,
Thank you very much for your kind offer that would be great. I'll pm you in a mo!

Welcome! Lovely part of the world you're in, we've just come back from a couple of days in Much Wenlock.

I'd speak to Liverpool. I've just had an email from them saying they have 9 new Calis coming through for September delivery. Various colours and specs, but they will all have the right options on them. Their prices seem to be amongst the best in the country.

Key options in my opinion are awning, front and rear parking sensors, cruise, comfort mattress, composite media with app connect (don't need sat nav, just use nav via your phone through the display, brilliant!). The chrome pack also looks excellent and really sets the vehicle off well, especially on a darker colour.

Colour is obviously a personal thing. Ours is grey, which may sound a bit dull but does look smart and nicely understated. I'm hoping it will also age well and still look good years down the line. Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for the very helpful reply! I've driven a 150 DSG beach and loved it but I have a limited budget so I'm wondering about spending that money on other options.

I probably won't go for any cruise control if I'm not having the DSG and adaptive cruise as I've never used it on any of my other cars.

I'm pretty much set on led's now as they look great and are much better than standard lights.

I'm also going to go for the premium Bluetooth kit and app connect over the sat nav option as I use maps on my phone. Out of interest, has anyone got experience of the premium Bluetooth?

I'm a little stuck on colours at the moment. My current van is silver and I love that so I'll probably end up going for that again.

Thanks again.

That's a good idea but I'm a little worried about price increases or is that just the dealer trying to scare me into placing my order?

Hi, thanks, We're not far from Much Wenlock, it's one my favourite places to visit in the area. I work in Bridgnorth which is just down the road.

I knew it was a good idea to join this forum! So many helpful comments so far, thank you.

I've been speaking to Guy at Preston and he's been very helpful so far. I've also seen him mentioned on this forum before but I'll take a look at the guys in Liverpool.

The chrome pack looks great, as you say and I'm definitely having parking sensors. I've managed to reverse my current van into a few things! Haha.

I think the grey is a great choice and it's definitely on my shortlist.

I'm sure you'll do very well with Preston, they are the same dealer group anyway!

I don't want to start a colour war but in my opinion a bright colour or a fun colour is more in keeping with a fun camping and holiday vehicle.

Grey could be a bit safe? But is understated and I do agree looks amazing with the chrome pack.

I have Oryx white but if I ever get another I'd go for silver or Acapulco blue.... sorry to start any arguments about colour!!

Bought mine from Liverpool. Chris Evans. Nice guy and very knowledgable.

It's all a matter of personal preference at the end of the day but I get what you're saying.

I'm having a lot of trouble choosing between them all to be honest. I love onyx White but the I think ÂŁ1100 is a bit steep for paint! I also live in a muddy area and my white Mazda is forever covered in crap and tar!

I've been surprised at how much I love my silver van so I'll probably stick with that.

I don't recall talk of price increases (it was 5 years ago). However now it's been mentioned above I do remember Liverpool being very competitive on price and helpful to our enquiries on the phone.

go bright mate. me and red here look great among the furniture trucks

Everyone seems to hate the standard lights but I've just driven home from the Shrewsbury flower show down the A49 and then traversed some very dark country lanes and I find the lights to be perfectly ok. I would have the DSG gearbox over led lights anytime.

Hmmm, what I actually want is both but I can't stretch that far!! I Did love the DSG but I probably wouldn't miss something I've never had. I would, however, keep looking at the front and think I should have gone for LEDs...so many tough choices!! Haha.

Welcome Lukem
Mine is a 3rd hand one (2005 SE) and I only changed front bulbs, added parking sensors and towing bar at the back that said I am totally with @Days out: The van itself is almost perfectly and I can imagine how hard it is to choose from all the specs. IMO I would go for some good lights and all the other things depend on budget (or how important it is to you).

Good look and I look forward to read about your final decision(s).

I think I've got a good idea now for the spec I want to go for. It's a scary thing ordering something like this that I'll keep for a very long time.

Hello Luke and Beth,
A warm, if belated welcome to the forum and please ask away. A big, complicated purchase is a California, but you will fall in love so like any love affair you will want to dote on him/her.... I'm just back from 4 days away and Albert is being spring cleaned to go away to France and Belgium next Sunday :D

If any of you folks in the Shropshire area need access to VAGCOM (VCDS) I have a full and up to date version. PM me if need be.

Rod

Welcome on board !

Hi, thank you so much for your lovely message! We can't wait to get started with our California. Have a lovely time in France and Belgium.

Hi Luke and Beth, and welcome!

Can't add anything as I've never bought new, just wanted to say what a lovely part of the country you live in. I'd love to move to Shropshire - if I didn't live in Dorset!
