Despite what the VW satnav was saying, Simplon Pass was open yesterday from Italy to Switzerland. Quite windy and drifting white outs near the top at 2005m but didn’t need chains. Then onto the lovely Camping Jungfrau at Lauterbrunnen via the Lötschberg Motorail Tunnel. Trip up the mountain on the train today to see the awesome North Face of Eiger.

Nice.
What wheels do you have and what size are they?

They are ATS Temperament 18” grey: they were less than £400 from wheelbase alloys so I got them for winter tyres as they were less than steel wheels.

I'm there early May any campsite suggestions please.

Thanks.

How is the snow coping with the warmer temperatures. We were planning to go back to the Alps in March but not so sure now.
It is quite warm right now, but if you're early it's fine. You can still park and go. Later the snow starts to stick. If the temperatures will drop (or at least stay the same) in the coming weeks it will be nice, but if the rise persists I'm afraid the only skiable options will be above 2000m.

The Masons Arms, Odcombe. Really nice place to stay, delicious food, really nice owners and excellent facilities.

This was our first night away as a family. Was pretty challenging weather for our debut but we survived and had an amazing time!

Hi Barnabas, lovely photos, but I hope there has been an improvement in the snow since I was at Engelberg last Sunday :)

Thanks. Unfortunately the snow is still very bad.
I found that Flims/Laax was significantly better last weekend. Still hard in many place but not as ugly as Engelberg. Saas Grund was a very nice surprise a few weekends ago. Nice and high altitude and wide pistes so could still be good skiing even on the firm snow.
At Saas Grund you can stay overnight in the car park at the bottom of the lift. Toilets in the lift building seem to be open until about midnight and open again early in the morning. 12chf for 24hrs

Wallis is a bit far for a weekend with the kids. Last weekend I've been in Scoul. That was also rather icy. Friends went to Lenzerheide. I will ask them tomorrow if it's worth a visit.

The price at Saas-Ground sounds good. I've never tried but there is also a parking with facilities for campers at Saas-Fee. I saw it during my sommer trip, but didn't check price.

We dropped our daughter off for a week's skiing just past Lenzerheide yesterday, and stopped overnight at Campingplatz St.Cassian. Here's the view of our van:

I also have a bunch of Coleman lanterns and a few stoves, so this was dinner last night being cooked outside... who needs a cooker inside eh!?

The alps are terrible this year.
I was in Switzerland a couple of weeks ago, lounging around the slopes in a TShirt...???
End of January in a T Shirt...???
What is going on. It’s far to warm.
