It's possible, I still have some left. Although that's going grey... On the plus side, I have a fine collection of millinery.

Me too but it's been grade one for a while now. Strangely I go from clean shaven to beards in about a day.

My wife and I are 32, I guess that puts us at the young end of Cali ownership! (have yet to spot if I can do polls from tapatalk)

Haven't found a way of doing it either, but the poll is worth looking at to see how wide the age range is, with the number of 31-50's just pipping 51-70's.

It's a lifestyle choice rather than an age-limited decision. We bought ours in our late 50s as an early retirement present, and travel around 10 weeks a year. The small size and relative anonymity of a Transporter footprint makes it a great exploring and travelling companion.

Just 71and just got Cali no2. 6weeks old. Been away 2 of those and leave for France tomorrow.
To be honest I had the same heart searching before I bought second Cali. I have spent most of my life in hotels. I love the freedom I get from the Cali. Just sitting on my drive ready to go at a moments notice. Travel light with boots and bike. Absolutely fantastic!

... and another subjective data point - just back from Corsica, which we had booked early this year before we had the Cali.
(We had to make do with hire car+ hotels.) I could not believe how many French and Swiss registered California, Beach, and T5 conversions we saw. I would say average age of owners was around 40-50. Hardly any T2s seen. Seems T5 is now the classic camper in Corsica. Certainly it is ideal size given roads there and 4WD probably an additional benefit. Aircon also essential.
Next time we take the Cali and increase average age there - but only slightly given the number of them.

Funny thing stats, because while 37% (at time of writing) are in the 41-50 age category, it means that the majority (63%) are NOT in the 41-50 category.

58 and 61 for us, Owners for 3 years now. Did a 6 week tour down through Bavaria and the Dolomites to Venice in our 1st year the only downside was having to come back to a deadline. Next year its a open ended crossing for us. Could have bought one years ago but didn't realise how much fun could be had.

You can be an old 60 or a young 60 - (discounting major illness) the age is in your outlook, not birth certificate, so get one and have fun

We use our Cali as a 2nd car to and from work, for weekend breaks and longer 2-week holidays. We just love its flexibility... much better than a big white motor home that would just sit unused on our drive most of the year!

We are a couple in late 60's early 70's and the only draw back nightime loo visit, but nothing a bucket with lid does not solve. Got to get bucket low enough to fit under bed and make sure there is a chemical point nearby, no prob. The wife and I sleep top and tail which gives more room, she does not complain too much about my feet near her nose.

My dad still drove his little camper till he was nearly 90 - I'm in my early fifties and have owned a vw camper (Cali internals) - for last year. I still go hillwalking snow boarding canoeing etc and hope to do so for many years if I'm able ! Certainly I hope to be using a camper into my 60's - if there's only two of you it's roomy enough.

We are in our 60s and drive a Cali... it was just a follow on from the two T2s, T4 and on to this T5 over 35 years. We have only had a VW camper as our sole car... the way to be! All three children learnt to drive in the docile T4 with one insisting on taking his test, and passing first time, in the T4. My daughter was transported to her wedding on the extra 5th seat, now dubbed the Throne. All round versatility :0)

Go for it! We bought our '92 Cali 18 months ago on our retirement - best move we ever made. Our 'maiden voyage' was a 2-month (May & June 2012) 5,000-mile road trip through Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy and France, then back via Germany and Belgium. The first night of the trip was also the first night we'd slept in it: says a lot for the qulaity of Westfalia beds!

Since then we've done another European trip to Germany, Austria & Switzerland (only 1 month, this year!) as well as trips around the UK. Part of this year's visit to Germany was to take part in the 2013 Sudbayern-Bustreffen (Southern Bavaria Bus-meet) at Kochel am See - over 220 vans of all descriptions there! We were the 'furthest travelled' having covered 2,085 kms to get there.

The big advantage of owning a van is that you can choose to go where the best weather is. If it changes, just move on to wherever it's better.

It's also handy having the van to visit friends and relatives - you don't have to actually stay with them - just pitch up on a nearby site.

So… as I said, go for it. You won't regret it.

We thought five weeks (with 2 and 4 year old) was good!
