Orkney campsites

Have you been to M O K & Arran before? They are beautiful we’ve been multiple times.
We were due on Arran again in April which was cancelled due to Covid. Have a great trip
Thank you! Yes we have been to Arran but not MOK and are really looking forward to it. Also plan to explore Cowal peninsula and back via Dunoon. So four CalMac ferries in all! Will try and post some pics of our trip.

We did that trip last year - Are you staying at Carradale on Kintyre? Can also recommend when you cross onto the Mull from Lochranza turning right and going up to Skipness Castle and the Seafood Cabin.

Oh thanks so much for that recommendation! We will definitely go there. Yes we are booked in Carradale and also Machrihanish. Really looking forward to it! Thank you again

We will look out for your photos. MOK is beautiful, if you venture to see the lighthouse the walk from the car park is not for the faint hearted but worth it. There is also the Chinook Memorial Cairn which can be seen via a slight detour.

We stayed at Carradale about 8 years ago, you wont have much trouble isolating there, it peaked at 12 souls on the beach, 6 were our family & 2 of the others were mountain goats.

You know its isolated when you make a day trip of driving to a tesco express for your main shop of the week.

Its on my very short list of sites that I really want to go back to & a deceptively long way to go. It took us longer to get from Glasgow to Carradale than London to Glasgow, but that was in an 8m long motorhome. Driving round rather than Island hopping via Arran

Make sure youve got green chemicals in your WC if you have one, blue fluid messes up their septic tank but reception are happy to sell you some green at about 20x the normal price if you dont have any.

I notice these times are only from the 3rd August for this week. Next week will be interesting because of course, it includes the ‘Glorious 12th’, the start of the hunting season, when these sections of road will be totally closed for a day for the traditional annual Haggis cull.

I thought the haggis cull was starting early this year due to the numbers? I thought Scotland was overrun with them following the Covid lockdown & they had been breeding like rabbits.

Thats why you must only drive clockwise, if you don't the haggis get confused and start to run round the hills the wrong way, with their long leg up the hill and they fall over

The increased numbers are a problem. The government had planned to start the cull a week earlier, however, following scientific advice based on the massive increase in tourist numbers on the route, they were concerned that the bared posteriors of squatting wild campers could easily be mistaken for the cute little creatures and they have wisely revised this advice!

Except for the left handed ones!

Your taking the p**s everyone knows. There are no left handed Haggis‘s ( or should that be Haggi)

Here in the north east of Scotland we had one of the lowest rates of CV. Today we have been put back into lockdown.
I appreciate some people have felt unwelcome when locals (in all areas of the UK) have said, please don’t come. And at the same time, businesses relying on tourists are saying, please come.
My own thoughts... I’ve carried on after lockdown restrictions as if they were still in place, only one or two minor changes - all keeping socially distant (dog agility and meeting a couple of doggy friends).
Others seem to have been travelling more freely and going out more... and now the one pub in Aberdeen from last week is 26 establishments in the region, all associated with this one outbreak... and I guess it won’t end there...
So, a digression from the ‘Orkney’ post this started as, but a reminder to everyone, to think before they travel and don’t assume you are not contagious, or others around you.
Thank you.

Dammit! You’re correct. The great ’left handed’ cull of 2018 got rid of the little blighters.

You are right Alison, it is a serious issue and reinforces the points some of us were making in earlier posts on here. Sorry you find yourself in lockdown, hopefully it will not be for long.

I’m not sure that is true at all. I had a fantastic week in the outer Hebrides, where is was quiet and peaceful. There has been many who have gone up north to do the NC500 and treat it like a bucket List and complete in as short a period as possible. If you are going anywhere, you need to be sensitive to the area you are in. Spend some money, smile, be friendly, you will be amazed at how people will forget that you are english... lol
People in Scotland who depend on tourists just want you to be friendly, fair and Clean ! I suspect it’s scotland’s own neds who are behaving as if every beauty spot has Music festival staff to clean up after them ! Of course, I could be wrong

I do hope it is a speedily revolved locked down and does not have to extend in to Aberdeenshire. Stay safe. Ps the Union Jack is nothing to do with me !

Oh, I thought you were in the United Kingdom.

Hallo Welsh Gas I am in the uk. Did you put the flag there ?
No, it all depends on which country your ISP is located. The Forum software does it. You can switch it off if you wish in your preferences.
