So I posted a few months ago that my radio touch screen doesn’t work in hot weather. Anyway it’s getting replaced with my all in policy. The only problem is the radios are still on back order with no ETA. This has been ongoing for months now. They tell me there are 3 more Californias with the same issue and they are also waiting for new radios. Anyone on here waiting for a new radio to be fitted from VW van centre Leeds?. I don’t want to be a pain by contacting them every week but also don’t want them to put me to the back of the que for warranty claims. Can a car radio really take months to come from wherever they are made??

Hi, I have been waiting since July not in Leeds but in Ayr. I get the same info from the garage, on back order and no ETA. These units are not installed in new vehicles anymore and I think the failure rate is high hence lack of parts. Could be VW are waiting for a batch build from the manufacturer? But how long should we wait. I can see a Kenwood or equivalent being used eventually.

My ‘infotainment’ system failed recently so decided to have it replaced with Kenwood DNX7190DABS rather than wait for a very expensive and inferior VW model.

We decided this year to switch (the RNS510) to Alpine iLX-F905T6 (operate on the CAN-bus system, including: rear camera integration). The power supply of the Alpine is switched to the leisure batteries (when camping: we then have enough power e.g. supplied by our solar system).

I am waiting because it is being replaced under warranty.

I had same issue a year ago but didn’t have to wait (I’m on the South coast). Crazy thing is to replace the screen is a very simple process for a specialist and the part costs less than £20 but VW will always replace the entire unit under the All-In plan! In my case as I had the upgraded DiscoverPro unit it was £2k+.

I’m thinking of doing the same in the future. How is the sound quality vs the VW unit?

That’s because the Infotainment System Manufacturer is probably bearing the whole cost of a replacement unit + Labour to replace. VW don’t make the units .

Interestingly, I just got a quote from VW this morning for a new Discover Media Pro head-unit and instrument cluster; the head-unit is currently £2,180 + VAT and it is on back-order...

My VW parts man said that for head-units, VW will wait until they've got a "batch" before they go to build (with the manufacturer); although he didn't know what this "batch" size was.

I had mine replaced under wty by Breeze back in the Spring. The big surprise was the sound quality was a big leap forwards. It was the same model that got replaced, but an upgrade.. but the replacement’s sound was so much better than the 2017 unit that it replaced..
