Hello,

I am considering replacing the auxiliary batteries on my T6.1 Ocean.
They are not the original batteries. They are not suitable. They are ‘Start and Stop’ batteries, not ‘Slow Discharge’ batteries, and I don't think they were well maintained by the previous owner.

Are there any precautions I need to take to ensure they are fitted correctly, or do I need to go through VW Dealer? The T6.1 console and electronics mean that things may be different.

Many thanks.

Nothing special. VW use Varta LA80 batteries. Any make will do BUT physical dimensions are important. Just be aware that when you disconnect the red +tve lead from one battery it is still live as it will be still connected to the second battery +tve so should be insulated in a rubber glove or similar.
There is no coding required but ensure both batteries are at the same voltage before connecting by charging both , outside the vehicle, before fitting.

Actually i have https://www.yuasa.fr/ybx9115.html and yes, i want to put LA80 as VW do.

I plan to also disconnect the motor battery to avoid any issue with the Airbag while a manipulate the driver seat.

Why i need to charge them before ?
I agress that i need to check the voltage to ensure that they are OK but if one is 12.7 and the other one 12.6, it should not be a problem ?

Ive written a guide on how to replace the leisure batteries, it was done on a T5.1 but not a lots changed, its a fairly easy job and only needs basic tools should take around an hour to do.

Thank you!
The main difference is ALL the sensible VW Eletric parts in the 6.1 that's why i'm asking.
The T6.1 console works differently than previous versions so before, i want to be confident :)

The only reason to make sure the voltage of each battery is similar is to reduce the current flow when they are connected in parallel.
The T6.1 monitors each leisure battery with a battery monitor module on each battery whereas previous models just monitored the overall status of the 2 batteries wired in parallel. As long as they are connected correctly everything will work correctly.
You don't have to disconnect the engine battery, just don't switch on the ignition until finished. If you do disconnect you will get a dashboard full of warning lights which should disappear of a short drive.

I inderstand.

I read somewhere that disconnecting the engine battery prevents an Airbag Warning if the cable under the seat disconnects accidentally. if this Warning appears i should go to VW Dealer and i don't want

As long as the Ignition is NOT switched On while the Airbag plug is disconnected, nothing will happen, no dashboard warning.
