Advice please... Do/should I lock my self in at night? I assume that if I do I need to cancel the alarm somehow.. The instructions do confuse me a little.. Switch in silly position behind driver with an amber light or sumfink... Please advise...

If you feel the need to lock yourself in you can do it without setting the alarm by using the lock button on the drivers door, (near the elec window switches from memory). However, do be careful if you nip out of the sliding door in the middle of the night it might lock behind you, so either disable it beforehand or just close door to without closing entirely. Does all that make sense?

Amazingly, I have never actually felt need to lock the van doors while inside. (I guess I've always assumed Mrs VD is sufficient to repel boarders... ;) )

Locking the car with the key fob deadlocks the doors.

Locking the car with the key fob after pressing the B pillar button deadlocks the doors with the alarm deactivated. NEVER do this with someone inside - they will not be able to open the doors from the inside in an emergency.

Lock the doors using the lock/unlock button on the dashboard driver's side. This will lock the doors without the deadlock. The doors can be opened from the inside only with two pulls on the handle.

Locking yourself out of your T6 California is not easy, but a sufficiently skilled incompetent can do it by following these simple steps.
1. Make sure that your vehicle is locked with yourself and your keys on the outside.
2. Remember that you need something from the boot.
3. Open the boot with the middle fob button.
4. Retrieve item from boot, carefully placing keys in the boot so you can use two hands to retrieve item.
5. Close boot.
Hey presto! You are now locked out of your T6 California with the keys on the inside.

Please share if you have any other handy tips on how the skilled incompetent can lock themselves out of their T6 California,

When you double pull the inside handle of the sliding door it stays unlocked until you close it and push the button back down so you shouldn’t get locked out.

That's what I always thought but went out that way
last week shut the sliding door and it locked itself back up. So always take a key with you or unlock with side button.

Agree with @hotel california

Use the button above all the mirror switches.

I also hang an attack alarm from the grab handles above but you may think you do not need to do that :shocked

What kind of alarm is that ? is it loud and how does it work ?
where did you get it from and how much was it ?
Oh, and have you had to use it yet ?
Sorry for the questions, but i´m intrigued.

To answer your third question first, No. I'm bemused by this considering myself to be an irresistible siren but put it down to the shotgun and claw hammer that I keep on the front seat :shocked

q1: It's one of those alarms where you pull a ring pull and it makes an ever so terribly loud noise, a bit like a politician having their expenses questioned.

q2: I got it from an online shop, one that specialises in safety gear, I think it was on chain mail order.

Would also like to see all campers with smoke and Carbon monoxide alarms as standard.. You are Locked in, and next to an engine/fuel tank/stove and disposable bbq all around the place is never a good idea! Are they fitted in the new T6 I wonder.. If not then why not.. All sounds abit scary but If the electrics fail/burn then how do we get out? A small window hammer would be a good idea?? Knife through the owning if the roof is up?

Lock button on door hard to reach if not swiveled seats and in lower bed. But if you press the key fob lock button twice it unlocks the deadlocks so doors can be opened from inside only but it sets the alarm off if you do so. Useful if you want to use key in bed to lock doors and still be able to get out easily in an emergency. Not so good if you press lock again to double check if you locked it. Must always unlock then relock if you’re not sure if it’s been done when leaving it unattended.

Yours is a 2008 though?
I don't think it's an electrical problem, it happened quite a lot in our 2014 van and caused by accidentally pressing the button down as you are exiting the sliding door by holding on to it near the lock. Fortunately the other doors were always unlocked when this happened. Too early to say on our new van.

I agree, won’t happen in its own unless you have accidentally locked it..

My garage did it once. They were very embarrassed and grovelled a lot. They had to drive me 25 miles home to get the spare key 25 miles back and repeat that to return my van and have a vehicle to take the driver back to the garage.

In a T5.1
Sit on the swiveled drivers seat enjoying a libation or two, inadvertently push down the lock button by the back edge of the door with your left elbow.

Decide to go and wash your teeth before bed and leave the van via the sliding door. Heart drops to the floor as the door closes and you hear the locks go across, only to realise the keys are inside the van...

So what is the purpose of the B pillar alarm shut off? At the factory, I am pretty sure this is what they said to use when inside...

Why is their so much confusion it is simple, at night use rocker switch on drivers door. End of. If in doubt read manual.

The remote on the key can lock all doors while open except the drivers door. So you can have the passengerndoor open, press lock on the remote, place key inside, close door and the alarm and deadlock will activate.
I usually do this when unloading heavier items, with sliding door open I press lock on remote, lift out heavy item hopefully with key in my pocket, close door, all doors lock confirmed by blink.
