Just received an email this evening from LV telling me they won't be able to renew my Cali insurance in October :(
They say that due to a change in their underwriting arrangements they will no longer be able to insure Campervans and Motorhomes.
Has anyone else received the same message?

They intend to pass my details to Gallaghers who will provide a quote unless I instruct them not to share my details within the next few weeks.
I will wait and see what Gallagher's quote, but based on previous quotations from several insurers, I suspect a doubling of my premium will be inbound shortly.

Insured mine with LV a few weeks ago, looks like I just got in while the going was good, thought it was to good to be true

About half ther price of everyone else . Been with them for 4 years so had a good run ! Got a mulit car policy with them so could be a bit of problem (another 4 vehicles - 3 of which are two seaters )

I had two vehicles on a multi-car policy with them, but it was a lot lower overall cost on renewal last year to move my wife's car elsewhere.
It will be interesting to see what Gallagher's quote for the Cali in October when the renewal is due.

That’s interesting, our LV renewal for van + car came through a couple of weeks ago and was literally half the cost of the previous year so I was v happy! Looks like I’ll be shopping around next time ..

The rate at which Campervans/Motorhomes are taken has increased dramatically in some areas.
Some (Aviva/LV) ,but not all Insurers are refusing to insure new vehicles in Worcester/Shropshire and all CV (Coventry, Warwick etc.) areas.

I think its down to the age of van my old t6 they would not renew but my newer 6.1 was ok!
so would imagine down to residual value and cost to repair older vans?

I have just received the same letter today.

Try getting a quote from AXA through SafeGuard. Unlimited stays in Europe are covered and comes with European breakdown cover.

Admiral seem to be coming up with ok prices through moneysupermarket. All mods declared etc too. (I’m currently with LV, had no contact from them but renewal is in November on a multi car policy).

I got this couple years ago on my old t6, but was able to insure my 1 year old 6.1, can only assume its down to age of cali!

Just renewed mine with LV, a 22 plate coast, a £25 reduction from last year at £360 this year.
Maybe it’s a location and age thing!

Just renewed mine too, £295 down from last year by £75

Do an online comparsion via a well known website . I dropped mine down from £490 to £260. Wording was exactly the same as Comforts and the suspension mods were noted. Been with the CCC for years and they kept upping the price. £320 > £360 > £420 >£490

Tried Comfort, but they were abrupt, upped the price by min 15% for the suspension works, and demanded to see photos of each suspension leg......I very much doubt that had any clue what they were looking for. Any trailing arm and spring is still a trailing arm and spring.

Following a discussion with an LV advisor concerning another matter earlier this year, we were advised that, as we had described our vehicle as a VW Motorcaravan, LV would not be able to renew the policy when it came up for renewal later in the year as the company would no longer be insuring vehicles described as motorhomes, campervans etc. However, the advisor explained that our vehicle should have been described and insured as a VW California T30 Ocean TDI 150 BMT and if we changed our policy to clarify this, they would be able to continue insuring the vehicle as it was a specific, factory fitted model. This involved a small increase in premium but means we can continue with LV when we next renew the policy. So far, all good.

I work in the industry (Comfort and Gallaghers are a couple of our customers) and LV have sold their insurance business to Allianz (they previously worked as partners). As part of this, Allianz have been "streamlining" the policy base and brands since 2021.

I know several non campervan owning mates who were with LV and got similar letters saying they would not be renewing their vehicle policies in the last 12 months, so it's not just a van thing. I suspect it's more about reducing "riskier" policies based on location, vehicle age and driver profile. It's also happening to any "personal lines" type products like pet, house and travel insurance.

I'm currently insured with LV on my van, renewed in February this year with a fairly decent reduction on last year. Had no notice about them changing anything as yet and, checking my account online, nothing showing there.

If you have received a letter / email, it's probably worth you double checking what details they hold for your van as a few people have reported they are still covering factory built vans and just dropping OEM conversions. Mine is listed as "VW CALIFORNIA T30 OCEAN TDI 150 AUTO" based on the reg I gave them.

@Janet W @Begize and others : Thanks for your replies :cheers.

I've just been on the LV support chat line as ours was also described as a VW Motorcaravan.

After confirming it was a VW factory built campervan and after she put the registration back into their system again, it came up with the correct vehicle description.

She seemed pretty sure that they would now be able to provide a renewal quote, but said this :

Thank you, the underwriters will review this again and will contact you if we would be able to insure or not the vehicle.

I'll wait and see what happens as renewal approaches in mid October, but perhaps it isn't the end of the road after all.

I saw on the Facebook forum that Cali's are sill being insured by LV. Seems a bit hit and miss how the system behaves...

I live in Jersey and if I’m not mistaken they bought a local long established broker. I hear the premiums not being quoted have risen sharply
