I've read many interesting posts on the Elevating roof. It seems there are a number of issues with the electric option, with members opting to convert electric to manual. My new T6 comes with a manual pop-up as standard, & I'm considering a change to the electric option. Has anybody done this...

After the explosion of the right hydraulic cylinder I decided to convert the roof into a manual roof. I did it by myself and used the original parts of the Beach. Costs about 1170€. Verry satisfied.

The Coast would be an interesting option if it had more options as standard. It’s winning point is the manual roof. I’ve come to the conclusion. You would be better off with an Ocean and convert the original electric roof to manual once it fails. I’m sure you would still be quids in too...

Hi guys, Just got back from our holiday, with our hydraulic roof failing for the third time yesterday. Now I've had enough of it and I will convert it to manual. Is there a way to get to Dumé's manual? I tried emailing but it seems the account has been closed. I would appreciate your help...

Thanks for the tip on rotating the seat - never thought of that. My manual said the fuse should be in position 19 but that is not a 30A fuse in my van - hence my original question. Position 17 though does contain a 30A fuse - I've checked that and all the other 30A fuses and they all look good...

For me the beauty of the Coast is that is has a manual roof, it will be interesting to see how you convert it to a motorised one. To do this i would only recommend if you had time on your hands, money to burn and needed a bit of disappointment in your life. Leave the roof alone Enrico :thumb

I don't think there are issues with the electric roof, just more stuff to go wrong but I haven't heard of people changing to manual or vice versa. Keep it as it is, why change?

It annoys me how long it takes to rise and fall. Having owned the manual version on the Beach, I prefer the simplicity of that roof. The electric roof is like a ticking timebomb, once the warranty expires. It will be problematic getting it repaired, as few people know the California roof system...

It would be great to hear how it goes as mine is a keeper, I would be very interested in total coast. The roof is the only thing I worry about really would be great to convert it to a Manuel one.

The interesting thing about the ‘manual’ roof is that it is semi-automatic (). Once you unclip it, it rises on its own. So the automatic option really means you just don’t have any clipping / unclipping. It’s as over engineered as the electric sliding doors on the toilets of virgin trains that...

Hi Flying Banana, I’ve not swapped out any sensors, but bitten the bullet and going manual. The VW parts come in at an eye watering £1554. That’s for all the required bits and bobs to convert to a manual Beach roof. Wambamcampervan are doing the install for me. I guess I could have explored...
