08 2.5 diesel issues?

Hi all
We have just put a deposit on California 57 plate 2.5 TDI however we remember then at campervan show recently one of companies that do the naughty word ‘conversions’ to avoid that year but we can’t remember why!?
Are there any know issues with this model ?

I have a 07 plate and it’s fine. I have owned it for 11 years now and had no real problems or complaints. I can’t see why a 57 plate should be any different.

I think you probably have the BNZ engine which came with a DPF and its associated potential issues, but from what I remember using the correct oil and regular servicing was vital for longevity. Great engine, devil to work on (I was told) but look after it and it’ll go on for lots miles.

Isn’t that the lump that likes to crack exhaust manifolds and cause bad smells?

Check the service records. It’s vital that correct spec VW oil has been used, 504/507.
