Seems VW have put the 4Motion eHybrid onto the configurator now. I’ve been keen to try to get an idea of the potential payload for this version given the extra weight for the battery and 4Motion EV bits.

From what I can see, compared to the 2WD 2.0 TSi the 4WD eHybrid has 168kg less payload. Going to be interesting with a couple of passengers, water and bikes/camping gear.

2.0 TSi DSG
Max gross weight = 2850kg
Vehicle with driver = 2393kg
Max payload = 457kg

1.5 eHybrid 4Motion
Max gross weight = 2950kg
Vehicle with driver = 2661kg
Max payload = 289kg

Seems the PHEV base vehicle is 268kg more heavy than the 2.0TSi. I guess this is about right considering the battery, EV electronics and 4Motion.

Does this look right? Perhaps only viable for a single person / couple van when touring?

That doesn't sound enough for the 4motion. To get registered under EU rules you need 10kg per passenger + 10KG per M of vehicle length + 75KG per passenger - thats the minimum payload allowed, so for a 5m long van it's 297kg minimum. Any options that are factory fitted need accounting for as well. This is why on the GC600 certain combinations of options were n to allowed to be factory fitted but things like the tower could be fitted by the dealer after registration.

Interesting. So at 297Kg, if you did travel with 3 x 75Kg passengers you’d only have 72Kg left in hand for all luggage, food/water, camping kit, bikes etc. Assuming you didn’t have any factory options that might eat into this. Hmmm!

You wouldn't be allowed any factory options that eat into that. You would not be able to register the vehicle.
