2 weeks and we're off (2 adults 2 under 3s:eek:). Plan is Calais o_O, Brussels, Frankfurt, Nuremburg, Stuttgart, Freiburg (Black Forest), Strasbourg, Geneva and across France to La Rochelle.

Think we have the van sorted and visit to Mercedes museum in Stuttgart. Any recommendations or advice on route, particularly any wild/cheap camping options for Germany most gratefully received!:thumb Danke!

If your into museums check out www.technik-museum.de 2 large museums 1 at Speyer the other at Sinsheim about 40k away Both not far from Heidelberg. Camping on site at Speyer

Annecy is a fantastic place to call in for a stop. Beautiful lake, nice places to eat and some amazing roads and just down from Geneva.
Grenoble is another that I liked. There is a cable car that you can take up the mountain, it's like a giant bubble.
Enjoy your trip, we're off in the other direction to Scotland.

When leaving Geneva try to go west by heading over the high Jura mountains, the road is the n5 to Comte, it's stunning.

The campsite in Geneva is right on the lake, about 8km from the venter, because it's on the lake it's very good, apart from that, it's very expensive will cost 50 euros minimum, and the bus stop that takes you back into town is up a really really steep hill.

If I were to do it again I would go to lake anecy (I've not been there but understand it's stunning there)

Good luck with the journey across France I must admin I would save the west coast till another holiday. There is loads to do in the route you've already got without an epic leg to La Rochelle

But good luck though. Ps don't be tempted to go over the ile de Rae bridge, the traffic will be epic in high season.

I am sure you'll have an amazing time

Beware in Gemany it can get crouwdy on the (free)camperspots , the big white whales are by high numbers there....think less on campsites.
There are a whole lot Dutch and Belgians heading in the German direction each weekend!
Are you planning a stay in Belgium or just drive thru....?
We also got a lot to give!

Get a bord atlas for finding cheaper campsites. In fact, all the sites we found using it were better than the ones from the acsi guide, ignoring the price.

It's written in German but is easy to understand.

The Bord Atlas is good......the only anti camper country I have come across is the UK...petty officials earning their pay......here where I am tonight (minus cali) they are positively wanting you here at the village I am at.... Spending MONEY.....

But was wondering why going to the merc factory and not the VW plant in Wolfsburg?

I agree on West Coast France but that was booked first to align with friends and a static week to relax proper! Also probably last chance for a while as we move abroad next summer - eek!

Not quite the right direction this time. ;-)

Currently not planning a night but a day stop and drive on in the eve. Currently into Brussels but will take recommendations.

Thanks all for Geneva advice. Expect Switzerland to be expensive but may go for comfort at a price. Will definitely look at the high road out to the West!

Hi dannosail and family

I try to give some personal tipps and fav around Switzerland (other Swiss may correct or add some infos):
- When you are around Black Forest and Freiburg: why don't go to Lake Bodensee? There are a lot of different campsites. My personal Fav is CP Hüttenberg in Eschenz ( next to Stein am Rhein): €20.- pitches outside the CP from 19.00-10.00 & you can use all facilities (inkl Pool and Playground f kids).
- Last week we visited www.trendcamping.de in Wolfach/Schwarzwald. Nice place, small place for around €25.-
...

Feel free to write if any further infos are needed!

Thank you also. With the time we have not sure we will get across to Lake Constance although that would be great. Think we will take you up on Wolfach before going down to Titisee and Freiburg and on south.:thumb
