Hi. My new to me 6.1 Cali Ocean 4Motion is coming up to 30,000 miles and 3 years.

Before negotiating the hurdles of trying to get a service history record from VW, what work should I look to be having done at this stage, in particular for a 4motion, please?

I'd rather be proactive with VW rather than rely on their computerised system. TIA

If its on long life servicing it could have been serviced at 2 years & not need another until its 4 years old. So possibly nothing.
 
It all depends on what your service intervals are for your vehicle. Ours are every 2 years so if it was the same in your vehicle then it would need a major service next year. If the service interval is every year then your vehicle would be due a minor service this year.
Do you have the service book that came with the vehicle.

I think I'm going to have to contact VW because I don't know what service interval it's on.
I don't believe service books exist any more, the record is all online
 
My Ocean is now for years old and a 4 motion 204.

For leisure use vw set them up as alternating one year minor and then next major

This year I had the gear box oil changed, 4 motion Haldex oil changed, alternator belt and a major service £1250 very painful - oh and MOT and Road tax and insurance renewal not a lot change from 2k truth be told.

The Cali will have the next service built in. When it was last serviced the technician will have set it. It will tell you on the menu when that is. Or in the WE app. The what it is is more confusing than it used to be with newer engines able to have longer service intervals, but the WE app tells me (10.5K miles) that we have a main service due in 9600 miles, and an oil change due in 2200 miles. Exactly what yours is is going to depend on when and what miles the van had at the last service.

Thanks for the info, I'm now all good with being able to see what the van needs in the future and when, but I'd like to be able to see what's been done in the past and when ie, it's service history.
I guess that can only be done with a visit/call to the dealers

Correct. Things like Haldex or DSG oil changes do not show on the MFD and are time/ distance related.
 
Haldex and DSG should be 40k miles. You might need a brake fluid change but I know some VAG group cars are now brake fluid every 2 years rather than the old first change at 3 years then every 2 years. Get your MOT done and then get the all in servicing (unless you have an extended warranty). Bear in mind the all in won’t include the haldex, gearbox and cam belt servicing.
I think your 4 year service will be the big one with all those items due.

I believe for the Haldex and DSG it was 2 yrs or 40,000 miles and that is the schedule I work to. Fortunately I cover the miles.
 
From what I gather from recent posts the cambelt/waterpump service is now longer due every 4 years. It’s going the same way as mainland Europe which is every 210k kilometres or 10 years.

The only service work that has been carried out was an oil service (described as a minor service on the invoice) at 14,000 miles and done by the seller's company, not VW.

VW has sent me the service history info that they had, which describes the Service Regime as being Flexible.
The only time they have had the vehicle was for a recall in early 2022.

The Cali is now on 27,000 miles and nearly 3 years, so in the light that only an oil service has been carried out in that time, I think I ought to get the Haldex and DSG sorted, as well as brake fluid

Your MFD service info should say when the next oil change, service is due. The oil change interval can vary depending on the type of driving/journeys undertaken as there is some type of oil quality sensor. The service intervals are time based.
Sometimes they match up, sometimes not.
Every service should have oil and oil filter changed and alternate services are classed as major and include fuel, air and pollen filters etc.
Personally I would check the MFD and have a full service + Haldex + DSG and Brake fluid and start anew so to speak. Others may disagree, but you can never over service but you can definitely under service.

I agree with this, my 204 4m is 3 years old and just hit 24k miles and I’ve had my first Heldex and DSG oil change. So yours must be overdue.
 
Have booked full service, Haldex, DSG, brake fluid for Tuesday.
Have booked in on Monday to sell a kidney
 
Get a good local garage you trust. Get off that long life cycle, do annual services
and change the oil at least once a year.

I change the oil myself “ inbetween“services. You can get the correct grade of oil for around £30 - £40 if you shop around. VW charge over £200 for a minor service oil change. The van has never done more than 4000 miles with the same oil.
 
Given the service history is rather important information I don’t like it being only in the hands of the dealers, so I keep a paper copy just like in the old days….. I bought Vince at 3 years old and got a printout of the service record which I transferred into a service booklet. I just keep it up to date by hand whenever he is serviced.

The electronic record only records what the dealer has done. The advantage of a paper booklet is that you can record any items done by an independent garage as well. When backed up with a folder of receipts it’s a valuable record. And it’s much easier to flick through to see when you had the last Haldex service etc.

Reminds me I need to check when the brake fluid was last changed…..
