Really pleased with how the new Cali performed around the lake district this weekend.

I'm glad it works Simon otherwise it would have been a very expensive static-campervan ;-) lol ..
Enjoy

Great pic!

I find it very useful not just in mud and I've but also very wet roads. Crossing Mull in near monsoon conditions was far more do-able.

If your brave enough, they are pretty amazing off road too. Ours breezed past a section that two other campers needed towing out of.

Also been told a couple of times that a field/car park is 4wd only due to rain; always funny when you tell them your van IS 4wd!

Thanks for the info.

I wanted the 4Motion but wasn't sure if it was a little extravagant. I certainly went down some snow filled lanes this weekend that I probably wouldnt have without 4x4. The Cali for me was all about going where our previous A Class motorhome could not. Car parks being the main one and for me I feel the 4Motion adds to this. Loving it so far.

I can vouch that the 4 Motion works very well. I went to a "collective farm sale" last week and although there was no snow the field was like a plowed one. 6 inches deep in places, and my new Cali went through it o.k. But I did feel guilty using a new Cali like that,--- but felt better seeing the Farmers grins disappear. In fact one asked if I was selling it !!!!!!!
Another hour wasted cleaning it-------- one test is enough. As I now know that it is very capable.
I hope it turns out to be as good as the VW Syncro Pickup that I had for over 21 years

I have been told that the transporter 4motions are used in a number of ski reports. Mates of mine were given a lift in one at Chamonix and were really impressed, describing it as having "mountain goat like traction"

I went 2wd but only reinvestigate the decision every time I drive my van! I intend to be a long term holder and know from bitter, bitter experience with my Audi S5 that vw build is not what it was and unusual/ low volume models can be beset with technical and design problems. I had the same thing with a Vr6 golf many years ago too.

Fingers crossed for the 4motion and dsg(me) guys in years to come as vw parts and labour are ferocious issues outside warranty. 6h labour for a S5 water pump replacement is no joke :censor

I was in Austria skiing the other week and there where loads of t5's being used for taxi's etc etc and not one of them was a 4motion ..I did ask a taxi guy that took us to another resort and he said its all about the tyres my friend and its not always snowing ,so why the need ...

Me too! Sort of an Audi Allroad style T5!

Seen a few 4motions on big alloys, daft low profile rubber and lowered; I just don't get why?!

A fully tricked up Defender would have fallen down that ditch too... :thumb

Not sure I would pay £50k+ for a vw campervan to be taking off roading on a camping trip with the wife and ruining it I'm not quite that wealthy ...i know they are capable ,but not really that well made ( well not like they used to ) ,so as much as it can do it it will be an expensive hobby replacing parts :) ......

If I thought I'd trash my van, I wouldn't try it but I'm pretty aware of it's clearance, what it's capable of and how far it can be pushed.

And again, it's very useful ON road too. I don't think many would do proper green laning in a Cali but muddy fields/campsites, sandy tracks, wintry roads, sodden conditions, etc are all pretty common in the World of campering.

Like I said ... We are all different ,use our campers in different ways for different activities meaning peoples budgets are different tastes spec different and the world of camping is different for everyone ... Lets hope it stays that way

I often go paragliding on small dirt roads to access the take offs, and 4 motion is definitely usefull.
Wonder though if the panamerican T4 in the video has "normal" suspension or a kit (like Seikel) as I find it quite impressive !
