Just following up on this thread - is it possible to get Apple CarPlay to display on the view in the digital dash?

Or is it only compatible with VW native nav?

Only on the head unit unfortunately

No but you can have a map from CarPlay on the centre screen and the vw map showing on the instrument panel at the same time.

And while you can’t display Car Play on the dash, if you use Apple Maps to navigate (as opposed to Google Maps or Waze), the dash will automatically switch to the maps view when you start the navigation and the direction arrows displayed on the dash will be those of Apple Maps (but the map will be that of the VW sat nav and won’t actually show you the route). It’s quite bizarre.

You can actually go a step further - there was a thread on this last year under the title of " digital cockpit"

You can however run google maps on the media display, run Apple Maps showing directions in one of the dial centres & have the VW map between the dials all working simultaneously.....

If you put the media display as a split screen you get the Apple Maps instructions on the media screen in addition to the google maps ones.

Exactly. It kind of drives my bonkers! So close, yet so far.

Just wanted to confirm I wasn’t missing something.

Like you I was a bit confused. When you scroll left to right on the display options for the speedo display, Apple Car Play shows as one of the screens. But, that’s all it shows, the words “Apple Car Play” (with a teasing ‘play’ icon). However, given the car map shows Apple Maps directions on the speedo display, this is now our favourite map app now in the van.

Touring Scotland this week, just after a software update on our 6.1 Coast (analogue dash) and I've just noticed that the nav arrow between the dials comes from Apple Maps if using carplay or Google maps if using Android auto. Previously it was only visible when using the built in SatNav.

Might be old news to some but I was pleased to see this neat little update.

Google maps needs a f/t data connection, right?

You can download local maps for use offline on your phone, but it's much more useful with a constant data connection.

I would be obliged if anyone would explain to me, how I instruct the Nav. system to avoid tolls.

We now use Waze via the Apple CarPlay as found the VW system let us down on so many occasions

Having said all that, it's still not perfect..

On motorways in particular the two displays do tend to disagree with each other!
