Hi all,

We are in the process of selecting and (potentially) purchasing a T7 California ocean and have a question around heating / air con when the van is not running. If we’re plugged into mains at a campsite can we run the heating or air con 24/7 without the engine on? If we’re not plugged into mains how long does the heating or air con last on the leisure battery? Or do we need to purchase supplementary equipment?

I’m not too concerned about the cold as we can just throw on extra blankets but we will be travelling with our dog so the heat is a serious concern. I’m sure, like cars, the van can get up to dangerous temperatures in the summer (especially in Europe) so just trying to figure out how we can keep the dog safe overnight or if we have to leave her in the van for a period of time.

Thanks

If you are talking about the petrol or diesel powered Multivan California, if the engine is NOT running then the AirCon will not run.
The Parking Heater runs on diesel or petrol and uses the Leisure Batteries. It will run without the engine for unlimited time on Hookup as long as you have fuel and probably 2-3 days without Hookup.

Now the Plug In Hybrid is interesting. The vehicle AirCon is powered by the EV battery and can be run when parked up for a time limited period. If you are charging the EV battery then for extended periods.

If it’s too hot for your you, then it’s too hot for your dog. Just leave windows open to try to get a breeze blowing through & park under a tree in the shade.

Tesla has a pet mode which keeps the climate running /doors locked, also displays a message on the dash informing passers by that the dog is ok - to save them smashing the window to save your dog. (..although that said, we would never leave our dog in a car unattended.).

We are planning on getting the plug in hybrid and are waiting for those to become available. Thanks for the feedback on the heating solution and potential solution to the aircon

That presumes the Multivan California does not vary too much from the Multivan Style that I have.

As the above...you have a rest mode that gives 20min. On the odd occasion, where I have haven't been totally happy I have also put the roof up with the vents open and the blinds onto the sun side down. We are talking 20min max here and only if we're nipping into the shops to stock up whilst moving from site to site.
