So we bought the van a year ago at 12 months/5000 miles. Main dealer.
Once home I went over it with a fine toothed comb. Here’s what I found.
It needed a good clean inside. Quite a bit of sand!
Seats out and a good deep clean/detail. I hate dusty under seat spaces. Similar cupboard runners etc.
Roof. It’s was pretty dirty in and around the roof mechanism and all of the bolts were beginning to show signs of furry corrosion. A good clean and liberal use of ACF sorted that.
Similar around the roof rams and sensors.
Roof drains. Both blocked. Wipers off. Cowling off. Quite a lot of debris in the voids where the drain empties. A good clean out and drains cleared. Note. Theses rubber grommet drains are designed with a slot to give a perfect nice flow. I’ve read of people chopping them off hoping to improve flow. Take a look down at your todger next time you’re in the loo. Similar design.
Roof edge trim. There was signs of green sadness starting to form here. Pulled the trim off all the way round and gave it and the roof edge a good clean.
Wheels. Clean enough on the face of it but once removed, pretty grimy on the inside. Usual brake dust build up and gritty surfaces. A decent clean and polish sorted that.
Brakes. Filthy. Callipers off/pads out and cleaned.
ABS sensors. Easy enough to remove but definitely showing signs of starting to seize.
Greased and replaced.
Oil. Despite only having done 5k I drained 7.2L of black fluid out I’m not sure if the DPF regen/oil contamination things is solved but there was 200ml too much.
This must be one of the easiest vehicles I’ve ever done an oil change on. Clean too. The drain in the oil filter housing is excellent.
It went in last month for its first official oil service (14k). It’s actually its third!
When I swapped the oil second time I only drained 7l out.
Grill area and black plastics. Starting to fade. A good wipe over with ACF brings it back to black.
So none of this is life threatening or will detract from the value of the van but it just goes to show how quickly these vans start to get crusty.
A good couple of days work but the van is so much better for it. I’m the guy you should buy a van off. A shame VW don’t offer this as an annual make over.
I can do it all again now.
