Any Vulcan fans out there?

The route for XH558s farewell tour at the weekend has just been announced.

We were planning to go and camp somewhere on the route over the weekend. We're a bit dissappointed though, I knew it was going to pass Woodford but I had hoped it would B-Line directly from its home in Doncaster (meaning we could stay in/around Castleton and see it from up on the hills). Looking at this routing though, I'm not sure where I fancy.

I'm interested in recommendations and perhaps it'll end up as a little Cali get together if there are a few like minded souls!

We saw it on Sunday at Avon Dassett (nr Gaydon) and had a brilliant close encounter as it flew over the hills. Saw a nice blue Cali on the way out too. Anyone here?

We'd be keen to see her over Rutland Water on Sunday. We've seen her a few times where we live in Northampton including the previous Cold War tour a couple of years back. It will be a shame to see her grounded, but time and costs etc.

Any idea of flight times and/or eta's?

I posted a thing on Facebook with the route on and signed it "live long and prosper". Nobody seems to have noticed.

@knightons you're almost my neighbour - we are on the Oxford/Northants border. Not sure about timing. Its all weather dependent etc. I have an android app that is really useful for timing and keeping an eye on the twitter feed is also useful. It is sad but she can't stay in the sky forever I guess. I think we're really lucky to have had this second chance.

Rutland could be a good call...

That's good to hear. From the link that I posted she will be arriving from the north so a fly-over from north to south shore would make a few nice photos especially from the south shore. We're about 45/60mins south of Rutland via Kettering, Corby and Uppingham and so will be keeping an eye on times etc as soon as they are posted. I went to see the Vulcan on her first appearance 2015 at Throckmorton and she gave the most beautiful Vulcan "howl", and am absolutely gutted she will not be flying again, the best jets get grounded. First Concorde (which broke my heart) and now this. Couldnt believe they couldnt just keep one Concorde for air displays. I have been lucky to see the Vulcan unexpectedly several times this year. First was planned at the air show, second I took a trip to Glastonbury (not the festival, but around that time) and I climbed the Tor, and when I came back down, I heard this loud roar, I looked up, and there she was gracefully banking and low, what a beautiful setting to see her. Then about a month ago, I went camping near Buckingham, and there she was again one morning flying over, then later that day I caught her again flying back from wherever she had been. I will check the links now, to see if I can catch her one more time, and this time I'll bring some tissues. So sad.

When "eye wura lad" I lived near Lincoln about half way between RAFs Waddington and Scampton when they scrambled from both stations in the night and flew out towards the North Sea you could hear the crackle of those engines for about half an hour.

@johntowers46 I spent a little time in Goose visiting relatives that were based there. What a place. I couldn't believe how cheap Jack Daniels was. I have a memory of breaking down on a Skidoo at the top of 'Dome Mountain' at -40 that will live with the forever...

@dod4luce Apparently a number of things are coming together that means the lights have been visible across the UK for the last couple of nights and for about the next week to ten days. It seems that people are saying the darker and further north you are the better although I've seen photos on t'web that show the lights being visible from the Cornish coast!

Your English is generally excellent, so I don't think you have much to worry about. I'm always amazed how well English is spoken around the world. When I've tried (not very hard) to learn other languages I get to the first hard to pronounce thing and give in.

I live with a Spanish speaker and I'm used to interesting translations

Wow, will keep eyes on the sky. I'm in the south Midlands, not very northerly, but worth looking if a little has been seen in Cornwall.

Thanks for the times; we've been following its route today and all seems to be going well... a few good pictures and videos taken and uploaded to twitter. We plan to see if we can get to south shore car park for the fly over Rutland Water + 13:05 tomorrow; if not then perhaps Bruntingthorpe at 16:10.

That was probably me buddy. I went up the hills for a run and when I arrived wondered why it was so busy. Got talking to a couple and they said about the Vulcan due to display, couldn't believe my luck. It was such a bonus to see the Vulcan and was a great place to view it from.
