Awning Clip

Good Morning

I wondered if anyone had any experience they could share? This at the end of the awning rail came off leaving the rail looking like this:

I assumed the clip had broken so ordered a new one however, it has arrived and looks exactly the same as the old one i.e not broken.:
The problem I have is that I can't push the clip on because of what is left in the rail. I am sure that this is an easy thing to do but I am buggered if I know how to do it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Clean the old sikaflex out with a knife, remove the sealant stuck to body. Stick new one on with fresh sikaflex
