Thank you for sharing this. I have a beach camper on order and am interested in ordering one of these. I think the one I would need is the one to fit the 3.0m wind out awning and not the 2.5m. Is this correct? If anyone is looking for a great option for an awning shade, we’ve just listed a video highlighting a product we bought recently.

Cysgod awning shade for our VW California Campervan review
Worth looking at a camping tarp too. We got ours in Decathlon and sewed a kador edge strip to it to slide into awning channel - we’ve used it both sides of the van And as a separate shade away from van (not sure I got pics) - very handy. Cost total was less than £30.Thank you for sharing this. I have a beach camper on order and am interested in ordering one of these. Outwell Hillcrest and Fallcrest tarps are similar and good value. All pack away with the camping chairs. If anyone is looking for a great option for an awning shade, we’ve just listed a video highlighting a product we bought recently.

The Outwell tarps look good, reviewed by California Time recently, but finding them in stock is a different matter! Well worth considering the Cysgod tarp, or modified Decathlon - brilliant idea!Outwell Hillcrest and Fallcrest tarps are similar and good value. All pack away with the camping chairs.
We have a Fiamma rain shade which is very similar. Had it now for about 17 years and two Calis. Very easy to put up and take down and gives shade and protection from the rain. After all this time it is beginning to look a bit worn but we still use it.

If you can ever find them in stockOutwell also do tarps for the front and rear of the wind-out awning.
Exactly! If you can ever find them in stock
Looks like there will be a huge restock at the end of March. Hopefully they will go back to the pale green fabric and not the brown 2021 version. If you can ever find them in stock
Brilliant video - thanks for taking the time to post it. I am really interested in buying one of these. I have a 2019 California Beach but I cannot find any info on what type of wind out awning it has fitted and the website asks for the make of the awning. Do you know if VW always fit a particular brand? I’ve opened ours right out and there is nothing on it to indicate who made it.If anyone is looking for a great option for an awning shade, we’ve just listed a video highlighting a product we bought recently.

Thanks for that. I had no stickers inside mine but a few photos to the lovely Jules at Cysgod revealed that it is a Thule awning - front canopy duly ordered!I’m sure VW normally provide Thule awnings but, I sent photos to Cysgod of stickers inside and the positioning of the awning channel and they identified it straight away.
Thanks for watching the video!

The awning material was able to be specified silver in 2014? I wonder why solar silver isn't standard these days (the only option is for the housing to be silver - black is standard - these days)We ordered the solar silver awning with the van when new it makes a real difference when hot it really does reflect the heat

You could make your own from Oxford tarp (same as tent material) various colours and sizes available (Amazon etc)If you can ever find them in stock
Just to let everyone who is interested know that I ordered one of these awning shades from Cysgod and I could not be happier.
Very prompt replies to emails (confirming I have a Thule awning on my 6.1 Ocean) and the awning arrived this morning. Just tried it out and it fits perfectly and is very good quality so a 'thumbs up' all round from me.
