Hello,
We recently took advantage of VW cutting prices on the last of the now “old style” Beach Campers.

We wanted a camper with two big beds. With two young kids, we will be mainly camping on sites and cooking outside - so the beach camper spec suits us nicely.

Would welcome any hints and tips from anyone that is/has been in a similar situation taking the young ones out in the van. Who sleeps on the top bunk and who is on the bottom? And accessories we should be thinking about?

Thanks

Hello and congratulations on the new van.
We’re a family of 4 with a beach camper we got last year. Kids are 5 and 8 and they sleep up the top and me and the wife downstairs

Couple of things I would definitely recommend

1. VAN ESSA window storage bags
2. VW California 2 Section Bunk Ladder (saves lifting the kids up and down all the time)
3. Cadac Safari Chef cooker.
4.Thule awning tie down kit.
5. Duvalay mattress topper
We found the Vw comfort mattress hard on the down stairs bed so we put the duvalay topper on top of the Vw mattress. Definitely makes a difference.
6.Thule Levelling Ramps.
7.Hook up lead
8.x2 man festival style pop up tent. When camping it’s perfect for putting in car seats and other bits to create more room in the van sets up and down in seconds.

we have added the pull out boot tray and plug in cooler recently but haven’t camped with it yet as it’s new so can’t comment on them yet.

It’s amazing tho your love your new camper and making memories.

Dan ;)

Great list Dan although only 2 of us usually (sometime 2 x grandchildren up top) would agree with all of your suggestions and the pull out drawer is a game changer and we have the cooler too.

Amazing
I’m loving the pull out draw atm but only used it for food shopping
Can’t wait to try the plug in cooler.
We have been using a yeti cooler which was has been spot on but looking forward to not have to worry about out adding ice and cooling blocks to it. :)

Great list I am working my way through! I think I would add seat covers - with little kids I think they could be useful.

They are superbly versatile. We got our beach when our kids were about that age 5 years ago. We recently after a lot of faffing about got a drive away awning and it’s made life with kids and dog so much easier. For years we thought we didn’t need it, and to be fair if the weather is good, you don’t. But camping in the uk means half the trips or more are wet for at least some of the time and then the awning makes a huge difference. We used to use a pop up tent and did for a couple of seasons.

Would recommend very useful boxes for camping gear, cooking stuff etc.

I fitted a roof liner after a few blowy trips where I felt the cold air was not great for the kids up top, pricey but good.

Second the duvalay topper, that mattress is like sleeping on the pavement.

And a jet boil (or cheaper knock off) makes making hot drinks almost as easy as home.

Enjoy!
