Beach Carpets

Sorry to do this topic again but...

I'd really like a decent carpet/mat for the living area of my two seat beach. However the only options are Brandrup (expensive but nice), bugs for rugs (full set only, cab and boot not needed) or autix on eBay (full set only and black, unknown quality).

Has anyone found a decent quality living area carpet for the beach, preferably in a grey and jazzy pattern, a la rugs for bugs?

We're thinking of making our own as I've yet to find anything I like. I found some stuff on the internet for finishing the edges of carpet offcuts that looks easy to use. As for the rails, I was thinking of keeping it simple and having 2 pieces and just sliding one over the other when sliding the bench forward.

I don't want to add more grey to an already grey interior so this route provides the opportunity for some funky colours.

I have an autix set and a bugs for rugs set from the shop.

The autix set is ok, not edged, sits pretty well and settled completely flat after a short time. It is very short coarse pile almost like office carpet tiles and small specs stick to it like velcro. It fits perfectly around the rails on my beach. For me a good hard wearing day to day carpet for protecting the floor.

The bugs for rugs set is nicer in comparison, short pile, softer, nicely edged, fits perfectly around the rails too. I didn't think I needed the boot carpet but it does look pretty nice in place imho. It did take a while for it to settle flat as the carpet is of a higher quality than the autix ones, i.e. thicker. This is more comfortable under foot and looks more camper too in my opinion. The package was massive via courier :D

I looked for quite some time and I struggled to find anything other than brandrup and autix. I understand QTM may be another option but dont have experience there.

I understand the Cali shop is awaiting stock for some full carpet sets to see how they will sell but I have no insight into that. @Calikev may be able to advise if specific orders may be possible in the future. I expect it will depend on how big the demand is and the lead times from the supplier. I can't see they would want lots of stock and combinations without understanding demand.

Found this quote from Kev, not sure if they are at that stage yet.

Hi Gillian yes the cab carpets sit on the existing built in carpet.
You will be able to buy either a full set or just cab , living , boot
I hope this helps

Thanks very much for your input folks. A bugs for rugs living area only would be ideal, but failing that the cali camping.de living area carpet looks like a good option.

I'll drop calikev a message to see if the BfR's living area only is going to happen.

Ps I tried QTM. They don't have a pattern for a beach.

I'm afraid when they finally arrive they will be sold in full sets and only in 1 colour.
Maybe you could find someone else who just wants the cab and boot and do a deal.

Anybody else got any info on 3-Seat California Beach size carpet for living area other than the Brandrup etc. I mean rug/carpet style covering the rails?

I bought some 500x500 Office tiles(dark grey) for £2.50 each. Cut them to size(ie either side of rails etc) and stuck them down with a bit of silicone. Also did boot area/under bench seat. look great and cost about £40.

I've got the autix carpet. It does the job but certainly isn't plush!

You stuck them with glue/silicone to the original VW Floor your trying to protect?

Yep, and "it comes off fine. Not trying to protect the original floor- carpeted it because I don’t like it!

We've had Brandrups from bow to stern in our Beach from new. Pricy but their quality is excellent, they protect the van well and they are very easy to keep clean. However when we have the grandchildren we do cover them up with those cheap absorbent rubber backed washable floor mats. It's surprizing what the little tikes bring into the van especialy after school. My particular bêt noir is the wet art work still dripping with wet PVA glue and glitter! :Nailbiting Thank heavens for water proof seat covers as well.

If its just the two of us and we are feeling in need of pamping it up a bit, we'll chuck in a huge black quadruple sheep skin rug that fills the whole back compartment. It's so soft, very thick and complete and utter luxury.

Hi Robert, I don’t sorry but I can assure you it works well/looks good. Only thing I would say is that the silicone didn’t hold a few of them down so well, so I used carpet adhesive tape.
