Just got back into the van at Portsmouth off the Bilbao ferry.
Van is open deck and is absolutely covered in salt to the extent that there are salt crystals on the van side.
Had to wash the van windows on one side to get off to see out.
First stop tomorrow is the jet wash.
Would actually have been glad if it was raining.
My advice do not use the Bay De Seine boat as you will open deck.

DON'T jet wash it. Plenty of low pressure water from a hose first. Jet wash and salt crystals a very good abrasive. Dissolve and wash of the salt crystals first.

For me your advice is sound in respect of the boat but about washing......defo agree with WG. Take care and you certainly do not want salt water being jetted under your roof seal. Hose pressure is all you need following a rinse.

This happens to my vehicle outside my house. We are a couple of hundred yards from the sea and when the wind blows from the north everything gets covered in salt.

Brittany Ferries do state on their web site
'Open Deck Parking
Vehicles may be parked on open decks on either ship. While the crew will wash your vehicle with fresh water towards the end of the voyage, we recommend you wash your vehicle within a few days of sailing to remove any sea salt residue.'
It is an economy sailing!
