Hi everyone

I fitted my Brandrup Airsafe yesterday whilst trying checking over my T6 Ocean with electric boot. I double checked the video on how to install beforehand and made sure I didn't slam the boot down. Everything looks fine but when I tried to open it, the handle sounds like it's disengaging the lock but I can't get the boot open. It's like it's stuck on the Airsafe. Can anyone help????

Really don't want to have to trek for an hour to VW for them to charge me fortune for something simple that I'm missing!!!

Thanks in advance

This may help.
The power latching process is 2 stage
First stage is the lock cam “claw” moves around the pin in the boot floor as the tailgate moves inwards to close and then as it moves to its 2nd position, a solenoid activates the motor that pulls the boot floor pin inwards and completes latching (and locking if activated)
During opening the unlocking action is to release part way with the motor when you activate the tailgate release and then as you pull on the handhold, locking cam rotates further by you pulling and the latch is freed from the pin ( or the Brandrup air safe acting as the pin).
If the latch is under pressure from contents in a stuffed boot, the motor cannot overcome this pressure and although you can hear the micro switch click and the motor start to release the latch it doesn’t release fully and it becomes a tug of war to get the latch free.
I wonder if your brandrup is slightly “misaligned” on the boot lock pin and the tailgate lock won’t release fully because of resistance of the tailgate latch or the boot floor pin with brandrup attached not allowing the power latch motor to return the pin to the unlock position.
This will lead to pressure on the latch mechanism stopping it releasing the brandrup pin.
With an assistant try with them applying a little pressure either way on the tailgate while you operate the latch to see if it releases as intended.
If it does then investigate the reasons for the misalignment.
The 2 stage latching can be seen in operation if you use a screwdriver shaft to replicate the boot floor pin (or your air safe)
With the tailgate open (good luck) introduce the shaft into the latch jaws to observe the 2 stages of the lock operation or if there is some malfunction in how your lock is operating.

If all else fails this thread shows the manual tailgate release option , the latch jaws and claw that I have described and the lock internals.

Thanks so much for this.

In the end, I had my husband press the unlock switch continuously whilst I depressed the boot handle and pulled on it at the same time. After a few attempts, it released.

I just watched the club video again and noticed he held the air safe whilst engaging the boot against it, which I didn't do. I just lowered the boot gently, so I think it must have not been at quite the right angle when I locked.

No harm done and lesson learnt!

The force was with you :thumb:thanks

Are you 100% sure that you have the correct air safe? there are two versions, one for power latching tailgates like yours & a different one for the none powered lock. I know from previous posts that the wrong ones jam.
