Chaps,

Looking at the Campervantastic (Not CVT.com) website under Brandrup droducts for the T5, I noticed a roof strap specifically for use when the electric roof fails!!

Am I to believe that under such conditions, assuming you can manually lower the roof, that there is no means of locking the roof closed in order to drive home?

The van normally comes with a strap designed for exactly this purpose... don't know if the Brandrup item is any better.

Very limited market I guess... suspect most owners don't even know what the strap they have is for. (In fact I'm not sure where I've put mine... Perhaps I do need a Brandrup one!!! ;) )

I was shown roughly how to do it on handover. Our friends had to use theirs recently; worth having!

I always have a roll of wide duct tape stashed away in the Cali. Amazingly useful when silly things go wrong camping (chairs break, rip in awning etc....etc...)
Multi purpose fix-it tape.. And would be more than adequate in holding the roof down in such a situation.

I expect the paint will come off when you peel the tape off ;-)

My strap was missing when I got my van, so brought the vw one from main dealer, only around £15 from memory and wouldn't drive anywhere without it as roof needs holding down if it fails.
