Just had my 2019 Beach (24,000 miles)in for an MOT, it failed on a broken rear spring. OK it’s under warranty but the catch was VW springs are on back order and the warranty won’t fit non VW springs. So I have to pay for a warranty issue due to no parts available. This sounds like a bit of a con. What other parts are VW not supplying to keep warranty costs down. I do feel this is not correct.

I guess some parts are still in short supply and I think it would be a heck of a complex and long con for VW to deliberately do this. I've worked for an OEM. None of them are that clever. Or stupid.

In this situation why not fit a non OEM one to get through MOT and then just get VW to replace when it comes back in?

Ring VW assist and ask for a courtesy car/ van. As yours is under warranty and undrivable.

I presume it is under the 2 yr Extended Warranty? Did you renew the VW Assistance at the end of the original 3 yr membership?
If so, as @andyinluton said, phone VW Assistance as the vehicle is undrivable, courtesy car and the VW Dealership can complete the MOT when fixed.
Also VW Assistance May be able to source a replacement from another Dealership.

I did not renew the VW Assistance. I have emailed VWUK so will see what they say.
I need the van as it is my daily drive so I have paid for the spring, will see what VW say but won’t hold my breath

I have a few sets of new springs in my garage what colour are the rings on yours as I may be able to help you out.
I see you are in Paisley I am in Helensburgh.

Great call @Mollymoo you should get a forum gold star, unfortunately I needed my van on the road so I just paid for a third party one. But this is what a forum is about ,community.

Nothing wrong with aftermarket none oem springs anyway. They're probably better

Like with most other parts fitted to a VW, VW don’t actually make them. They send tenders out and whoever comes with the best value to the company then gets the order,
There are many many OE parts surpassed in quality by aftermarket parts one example is Brembo brakes which are far superior than OE parts. I certainly wouldn’t bother waiting till VW got their act together and buy my own Quality aftermarket items and get them fitted at my local garage.

If you can twirl a spanner and operate a jack, the rear springs are really easy to do yourself. Happened to me.. bought 2 aftermarket springs and swapped the pair at home in around 1 hour

My 2019 Beach (41,000) just failed its MOT with a broken rear spring. I have the extended warranty up to Jan 2025. The local VW garage told me it was not covered as its a wear and tear item. I paid £300 to get it fixed. I've since been on to the warranty department and they say it should be covered and to go back to the VW garage. I am now waiting to see what the VW garage say.

If the spring is covered by an extended warranty and VW can not supply the part I would try taking them to small claims court to pay for the timely repair.

Just had the rear nearside spring replaced and the rear offside last year. Collecting Maurice tomorrow from Lookers Glasgow so I will ask them why this happens.

Update: The local VW garage admitted it was their fault for not submitting a warranty claim. Now fully refunded, but took a month to sort out.

As it should be. We have had both nearside and offside rear springs replaced on warranty, but we've got just under a year left of the All-In warranty, so looks like we'll be paying next time. It is very annoying.

I've just had my 17 Ocean fail an MOT at local dealer due to rear broken spring. They say it's not covered under all in one warranty; yet other members have had this repaired under warranty I believe. Also they advise to replace both rear springs at a cost of £724... is that reasonable??

Ring the warranty department direct and they will tell you if its covered or not. Try 0333 0433781.

Update:
After pressure from me and a call direct to the Warranty Dept (thanks Declan 333) the dealer agreed to submit a claim on both the broken spring and the advisory on the leaking EGR pipe: result both were agreed. I did decide to replace both rear springs and so paid for the unbroken to be replaced as seems to be common advice: I feel satisfied with the outcome and again grateful to the Cali owners club community for support and advice.

Loads of almost new original springs and shocks, often available on the bay of e as a many t5 owners alter their suspensions to lower them or fit bigger wheels.
I bought a complete set (both front legs )
and replaced mine as one spring had broken and shocks were original and were due a change anyway. Most of the legs are off delivery mileage vehicles and good for thousands of miles.
Just check the colour codes on the springs and look for the same.
