We recently bought an inflatable kayak which now takes up the space in the boot where our Bromptons were so this forced me to consider an acceptable way to carry the bikes as well as the kayak. A couple of hours research and I found these folding case/bags on eBay for just under £20 a piece. They are padded and can be packed away flat when not required and also can be covered with the cover that comes with them. I'm quite happy with them (that is of course relative because when we want to use the lower bed they will have to go in the footwells or on the front seats, but that is a small inconvenience for the gain in carrying our 'toys' for road and water :) )

Thanks for this. Was looking to get a pair of Bromptons and these look great.

Does anyone use the rear cycle carrier for carrying their Brompton’s. I’ve got 2 (a 3rd for when daughter gets a little older) Brompton’s and at least 1 other bike to sit in on the bike carrier - l hope

No. If going to the hassle of a bike rack I'd take full size bikes. The Bromptons are an easy resale etc if stolen. I have taken 3 Brommies inside but maybe have more luggage space in our Beach? Much prefer the load and go flexibility/ security of having them inside, especially in Europe.

Whilst I agree in principle… as a family (of 4) cycling around France… I haven’t much choice but to carry them on the rear cycle rack. Any suggestions for a good (gold standard) long lock?

We use one of these, combined with a long cable lock through all wheels and secured to van chassis:
