We are wondering about venturing out for the weekend coming up and we fancy the Suffolk coast. Has anyone got any small and open site recommendations? Chris & Sue

Run Cottage in Hollesley is one we've been to a few times and really liked. Lots to do nearby and the owners are very friendly.

Run Cottage is a favourite of mine too, but Cliff House at Dunwich is great with a mad staircase down the cliff and onto the beach. Lovely onsite restaurant open at the weekends this time of year.

For something really simple, you might like to try The Queens Head at Brandeston, but keep that one under your hat as we like to think its our secret site.

Pub is great - Toilets showers - Less great

We have stayed at Cliff House site at Dunwich; it was a few years ago in late October and we enjoyed the instant access to the beach. Many pitches are under trees but it is a lovely area to be in. The only thing that we found a little difficult was the 'mad staircase' to the beach that James mentions; with dogs on leads (we had three at the time), it was somewhat narrow and precarious in the wet, windy weather!
