I stopped at the new Canterbury Aire on Sunday night and ...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE .... will every city, town, municipal borough please read!

It's brilliant.

Easily reached from the A2. 20 spaces. Water and waste disposal. Part of a new park and ride carpark. Park up, £3 also acts as your bus ticket, 5 minutes into a town centre bus station that is 5 minutes walk from the cathedral and a few yards from the pedestrianised shopping area. Pub on the corner selling food.

What's common in continental Europe, so rare in the UK , another brilliant addition.

Be warned. It's already getting busy. 9 units parked up tonight when I left.

Stopped here on Friday night and agree with GJ. It's a great little location. Not a huge amount of space per van, but it's an aire de service, not a campsite. Fine for a night's stop. Thought there'd be some traffic noise but actually it was the morning chorus that was the most noisy thing.

Will add that there are toilets in the P&R bus area, open when the busses are running. The inbound gate locks at 8.30pm, although you can leave at any time. Maximum stay is 48 hours. Last bus back to the P&R was 7.30pm on Saturday.

The pub is quite nice and has proper beer :) Canterbury was nice too!

Postcode is CT1 3EJ, details here: https://www.canterbury.gov.uk/parking-travel-roads/parking/park-and-ride/motorhomes-and-park-ride/

Seems popular, was filling up nicely when we left on Saturday. I imagine you'd get away with the carpark (2.4m barrier) if it was full.

Was going to stay a second night, but decided we wanted a sea view for breakfast.

Thanks for sharing that , we need more of those also in Belgium!
In France it is so common , some even free of charge.
Great for just passing by , arrive in the evening and sleep , in the morning a walk in to town and off again...

Exactly. And as a consequence various local shops got additional business.

We looked at the air de service in Bruges last year, which is very convenient for the city, but opted for Melming so we could have a shower :)

BTW, went back up to the Dover Patrol Monument on Saturday night, have given it a tidy up ahead of your visit this year ;)
