Hi All,

I was out and about yesterday minding my own bees knees rocking to some music (DOA by the Foo Fighters) using the app connect/car play function when..... The audio started to skip like a dirty stylus or scratched CD!!

Thought wow that's a bit odd, so skipped tracks but the same again, removed form the car play pressed play through the BT audio media and all was fine?

Anyone else suffered anything like this?

Hi, yes I have been experiencing this a lot. Just back from a 4 week trip and contemplating taking it to the dealer as I am sick of music jumping, telephone calls dropping, etc etc

Which source? I use Apple Music and have no issues. We used Spotify as well for a 6 hour drive, no problem. Be sure to use a Apple original cable.

Never had this happen on my T5 over bluetooth, so may be worth a visit to the dealer.

I'm going to book it in ASAP, like you never had this issue using the Bluetooth Audio, it the first time I've had the CarPlay so can only think it's a software issue.

FYI I only use official apple cables been down the road of the cheap ones before and they always fail very quickly.

using an iPhone6 and an apple cable into the USB socket in the middle console. Phone calls dropping out, music dropping out... I was thinking it was due to horrendous mobile coverage in scotland - but received a call whilst in Newcastle last week and it was dropping every 5 seconds... fortunately it wasn't a job interview... but I'm sincerely not impressed...

Alisonf: does yours also work fine over bluetooth, ie removed cable?

yes - I have had this when playing media through the USB ports - Bluetooth is perfect. But I want to use USB 1 for Carplay and then play music from my wife's iPod. Bluetooth is disabled when using carplay so Mrs DM's iPod has to be connected via USB2 in the glovebox. Cue skipping. disconnect carplay and use bluetooth - all fine.

I discussed it with the dealer in May. They advised that it is a known software fault that will be fixed in a future software release. I'm still waiting. You've reminded me to chase it up. Ill call the dealer tomorrow and post the response.

In bmw iDrive its easy to see the version as well as update the soundsystem via usb, but I guess vw has nothing of that. It would be nice if we got some carplay stuff in the display between speedo and rpm as included in iOS 10.

Interested to hear of the known software issue as I have had no problems whatsoever using CarPlay with my iPhone 6 plugged into the USB socket in the small compartment centre dashboard. Any further info on devices and/or iOS versions that this effects?

The issue is not with CarPlay itself - at least not in my case. It is playing media from a second USB device (not the CarPlay one) plugged into the USB in the glovebox.

Okay, understand. Never tried that one.

Not in my case - I am using iPhone6 plugged into USB in centre console and still getting huge disruption.

Haven't tried that yet - will do so on next trip.

Same as me and it all works flawlessly for me. What version of iOS are you running on the phone? Have you tried using a different USB cable?

I had a weird thing with Dab recently, driving down to the SW and the DAB just conked out. I wondered if the whole network went down because I could only pick up R4 and not much else. There was some reported signal problems that weekend but not with the entire region and station list.

At the end of the weekend, as we started to drive home, it was still not working. I was gearing up to call VW to report the fault when I realised we had been charging a lot of devices on the drive up.

It seemed with 2 phones and my vehicle cam plugged into the vehicles 12v socket and thus high power draw reduced the effectiveness of the dab receiver.

May be worth looking at how much is plugged in and experiment with removing a few if its a lot and see if it changes. Not saying its the problem on a t6 but since I've been more mindful of what is plugged where, my DAB has been fine but does degrade if I have a couple of phones plugged in. Not out of the question you could get a similar effect with bluetooth and maybe with cable if power is low. Does it also do it via aux in? I guess not?

Also check its a legit apple cable if its iphone, Ive had problems with after market ones.

How far south west did you go Matt? We were down there a few weeks ago and DAB gave up the ghost half way across Bodmin Moor. There were odd places we could still receive but it was patchy. Half way back across Bodmin moor on the way home and it returned to normal.

To date the only phone we have had plugged in and charging is my Iphone5s

As before it works fine on BT audio so can only be the software in the head unit

Still awaiting for a response from VW to see what they want to do

I just emailed dealer to get an update on the software fix (that they told me was awaited). What's the betting they deny any knowledge !!

I'll post any update here.

It's also possible that something in the vehicle is generating RF interference and causing bluetooth data problems.

Not sent from Tapatalk with its annoying signature that tapatalk users don't see and is easy to remove!

Hi Loz,

The thread its self is referring to "Car Play Fail"

Car play only operates through the USB connection, i have no issues as per my last posts with the Bluetooth.

Bluetooth works fine, Car Play not so much....

I shall count myself very luck that CarPlay works fine for me. New version of CarPlay arriving late next month with iOS 10 which may make a difference.

Thanks, I'm updating iOS to see if that helps (was still on 9). Can also take a couple of cables on my next trip (apple / apple approved) and we'll see what happens...
