CarPlay - phone and google maps

What am I missing ?

Phone and google maps used to work through the van however something has changed
If I connect to CarPlay then the phone no longer works through the sound system. It terminates the Bluetooth connection when I select CarPlay. I can then only use the google maps. I can make a call using the van dashboard but the sound comes out of the phone and not the van speakers. Presumably because it dropped the Bluetooth.
Almost like I can have one or the other but not both

Have you tried deleting the phone and setting it up again.
I have also noticed that trying to set up the vans onboard Wi-Fi causes peculiar things to happen but being new to me haven’t got to the bottom of this yet?

My Bluetooth CarPlay connection stopped working after I'd tried to set up the WiFi. There's been a couple of updates in quick succession very recently, I think I'm going to get the second done and then do a complete reset of everything.

Had the similar problem after installing IOS 18.0.1. The car did not recognize the iPhone anymore. In the iPhone settings go to, general, carplay, my car, choose "forget this car". Switch off ignition and reboot. After that it reconizes your phone again... etc.
i.o.w. I think the phone is causing the problem, not the car.

Hopefully this will solve the problem.
