We have taken delivery of an Ocean 6.1 to replace our 2017 Ocean 6.0. Thought it may be interesting to list the extensive changes we noticed with the new van, some are well publicised others not.

Seat covers are darker material
Roof canvas is darker material, meant to be more waterproof. Much darker upstairs now.
Kitchen door covers darker suede effect

Bigger mirror in rear cupboard with light
Little window above fridge has slide out storage
Small storage on rear cupboard door
Split hob cover
Lids on hob and fridge pop up when opened
Side windows easier to open and shut
Front canvas window unzips

Inverter is 300w and 3 pin plug on side of drivers seat base
Lights on seat base rears

Fatter shorter medical kit, looks same stuff
Fuse box easier to access as on lower dash

Doubtless we will find more, most are nice improvements... a few obviously aren't

Extra pockets on back of front seats
Driver operated Childlock on sliding door
The famous ventilation mode
Drive off locking

Thanks for the list.

You mention that the space under the rear shelf is lower, could you measure it and report back..? Will it still take a Porta Potti for example, especially if on a slide out tray..?

Without measuring it, it’s the same height as the old base on its lower setting.

We were considering a slide out draw for our old van, the tilting bed base has done away with the need for one for us. Just tilt the base to get access to the rear of the space.

Fair enough...:)

The Thetford 335 fits under the rear shelf on the pull out drawer see pics. It won't go fully left due to the tilting mechanism.20210719_182336.jpg20210719_182948.jpg20210719_183056.jpg

Here are some of the specs from our 1960s split screen combi.

Engine.
Gearbox with occasional gears.
Dashboard with Speedo. No fuel gauge.
4 wheels. + 1 spare bolted to roo bar.
Seats front and back.
Lights and horn.
Rust.

Definitely no dash warning when engine seizures were imminent.
Just lots of metal oil and smoke down the road.

Oh how VW have progressed over the passed 60 years...

Thanks for this comprehensive list. Can I ask why you changed your van? Were you offered a financial incentive from your local California dealer?I am asking myself whether it’s worth swapping out to a 6.1 as mine’s coming up to 5 years old next May when the warranty expires. That would probably be my main reason for part exchanging.

We were going to change just before the 5 year warranty ended. But the offer from VW of paying any charges if there was a no deal bre** t made us change early.

Hi, thanks for the list, I like the sound of some. The one I'm most interested in is the new sprung upper bed, how is it for a 'side sleeper' ?
Aidy

Thanks for this comprehensive list. Can I ask why you changed your van? Why do you want to change? there's an awful lot that can go wrong & be fixed for the cost to change.
My reasons were: Auto box needed, ULEZ expansion(old van not compliant), wanted Led headlights & generally after 7 years just fancied a new van.

If the old van was DSG I would probably have kept it as other than a 3rd brake light falling out, sliding door lock failed & loss of oil due to a servicing error it was totally problem free & had no sign of any roof corrosion.

Its worth putting your current van into the WBAC computer to get an idea of value, prices are high at the moment & you could probably get a a private buyer to stump up a lot for it now on the basis of having 10 months factory warranty still.

I find the new bed similar to the old for side sleeping, just the bouncing around of my partner on a change of sleeping sides by me, is much reduced
