My Cali has been to the dealer today for a service and MOT. I asked them to test the batteries as my instinct is they are not holding charge as well as they used to. I have been advised that there will be a standard VW charge of £66 to test the batteries as they have to remove the front seat and bench seat to get at them. Is that correct?

Only the front seat needs removing, the rear battery will have to be withdrawn from its cubby hole so a standard diagnostic charge is being quoted.

Thanks. It's going to my trusted local (non VW) garage for some routine work in a couple of weeks and I'm sure they will throw in a battery test for free!

Be careful of local garage testing battery. Many will just do a quick "drop" test and this if not done correctly can kill a battery.

While they have the seat out ask them to mofify the battery cover so that it comes off without taking the seat out. Easy access to the battery terminals then. Yet anothe VW design cockups
