Hi! Does anyone have a list of items that i need to ensure i have covered for taking out insurance for the first time on my cali ocean? Have to collect it this week subject to the virus! See lots of posts saying about certain things but was wondering if anyone had a list that i can run through with the companies i ring for quotes, so i dont miss anything?

Not sure about a definitive list, but there were issues getting motorcaravan insurance when the Cali Ocean was changed to a MPV class vehicle. I think most insurers are aware of this now and will still insure the Cali as a leisure vehicle/campervan. This would give you increased cover for your belongings and accessories. Not sure how true, but had heard some car insurers (rather than specialist leisure vehichle insurers) were not covering the habitation part of the van for some reason. We found Comfort insurance pretty reasonable, just has quite a low yearly mileage limit of 6k miles, but I think this can be increased.

Your right the yearly limit can be increased from 6000 miles, we did and have unlimited miles

yes I suspect I need to shop around next time. I started with 6k and that was plenty the first year we had the van but but our annual mileage is climbing

I think we will be in the same boat with mileage. It's surprising how quickly it racks up, but at least it means it's getting used!

A specialist Campervan/Motorhome policy will cover all the habitation in case of a vehicle accident but, more importantly, when actually camping - such as a cooking fire or roof torn off in an unexpected storm ( exaggeration I know but you get the drift ).
General car insurance may be cheaper and probably cover the habitation side of use in case of a vehicle accident but not necessarily while camping and often have a low contents cover for things like a drive away awning. So ask the questions and check the Ts & Cs.
