Recently drove from Yorkshire to the Lakes. We went through Bradford, as we have many times, without any problems.

However a new (to me) Clean Zone has been set up. As my 2012 Cali is non-compliant I had to pay £9. On the way home I avoided Bradford, as I will from now on. Not an especially nice place anyway.

FYI: The payment timing is a bit dodgy though:

A 'day' is classified as midnight to midnight, not 24 hours from when you enter the zone. During that midnight to midnight timeframe, you can enter and leave the zone numerous times and only incur a single charge. However if you cross the midnight threshold you will be charged for two days.

So if you enter at 5 mins to midnight you will have to pay immediately and if your journey takes 10 minutes you will have to pay for two days.

Seems money is the attraction and not clean air, surprise, surprise.

I take your point entirely that, for a short visit straddling midnight, this seems unfair. I am not sure how many folk this would impact on however.
I also suspect that the locals are more content with a daily charge than one based upon each incursion.
At the end of the day (excuse the pun) Bradford is relatively easy to avoid when passing by.
Thanks for the heads up :cheers
