comfort lighting question

I'm interested in a built Ocean i've seen and it has the comfort lighting with lighting in the wardrobe, cupboards and along the front edge of the kitchen unit.
I found the switches on the side of the kitchen unit but they didn't seem to work unless the ignition was on? is this right? would seem pretty useless if that was the case?

The comfort lighting has a number of settings.

It can either come on when the doors are opened, or be controlled by the switch which also has a dimming option.

Top switch needs pressing twice to change from driving mode to camping mode. Hold to alter brighttness. Bottom switch turns on/off the lights in the kitchen cupboards.
No ignition required even in driving mode it goes with locking/unlocking the van.

They're not automatic, don't forget to turn them off!
