A trip to Tesco in the Cali May have cost us £538.70!!
Shopping went in the boot but on top of the ‘comfort’ mattress as the bottom was full. Arrived home 40 minutes later to find a beer can had a slow leak and went through the bag onto the ‘comfort’ mattress cover and through to the first panel of foam. Too strong a smell in the foam to live with it. Plus a can of beer wasted!
Tesco are going to see if their insurance will pay…. I doubt it at £538.70!!
We may have salvaged the cover but any idea if you can buy a VW foam replacement? We want to keep our van as original as possible.
There’s a lesson to be learnt here!!!

2 choices:
1. keep looking on here for a secondhand one for sale.
2. Any half decent upholstery shop can sell you some memory foam as a replacement.

Am I right in thinking the covers are zipped on?

Can down. Can down. What a waste of good beer......oh the humanity.

Seriously, the covers are removable which means you can replace the foam insert. Just get the appropriate thickness from +amazon+amazon+amazon+amazon+amazon+amazon Basics. Cut to shape and refit.
Alternatively you could wash the beer out of the foam and leave it in the sun for a day to dry. Should be salvageable.

Yes each individual one is zipped in but unable to separate each cover so 1 cover, 3 zips & 3 foam inserts. Thanks for your help

Not sure we can wait for the sun . Good call though & worth a try

Ditch it and replace with a much more comfortable after market mattress. And subsequently thank Tesco’s for their part in helping you ’see the light’….

Have you tried washing it with a Rug Doctor type cleaner (with appropriate handheld tool installed, not the standard carpet brush of the machine…)?

Works wonders on a cloth sofa, so can’t see why it wouldn’t work for this

I have a brand new mattress you can have, will accept any reasonable offer if you can collect.

Thank you for this. It looks like we have managed to get the stain & smell out of the cover with good old fairy liquid & elbow grease but the foam has stained and smells. Looking at replacement foam options or complete replacement possibly depending on £££.
