Comfy beds?

I've read much about using mattress toppers to make lower (and upper) beds more comfortable. As we are just 2 could we bring down the upper mattress to use on the lower bed for more comfort? Sue.

Neat idea: we never thought of that

We have found the upper bed very comfy and doesn't need anything extra :thumb .
Downstairs we've found to be :censor dire so bought a topper and it was fine.
We never thought of using the upstairs mattress downstairs, though  .

TBH we only sleep upstairs now (even though we're top 60s and arthritic) so have a 2" topper we just don't use.

It just occurs to me that the top mattress is a deal wider than the bottom bed width so it will 'wrap up' the side wall a bit - but this might be an advantage?

In theory sounds like a good idea in practice not. Have you ever tried to remove the upstairs matress it's not easy.comfortz leisure now make a direct replacement for the upstairs bed out of memory foam I fitted it yesterday so had to remove the original it is doable but not on a regular basis. Good thing about comfortz replacement matress is that it stays in place with the roof down

Replacing the upstairs mattress with memory foam sounds like a good idea :thumb
Sue why don't you just sleep upstairs if you are fetching the upstairs mattress down everytime then you will have to put it back when you want to make breakfast a bit of a faff if you ask me

Our top mattress got soaked once; it was a huge faff to get it down!

Zonesleep topper is the answer!

I've just bought the Duvalay fitted 2.5cm mattress specifically shaped for downstairs in the T5.
It's comfortable and rolls up ok in the morning.

re bringing the upper mattress down it is hard work to get it through the opening

Is the Duvalay made by VW? If not, by whom and at what cost? Thanks. Sue.

No. It's specifically made to fit the T5 by Duvalay.

see http://+++++++++++++++++++++++/product.php?prod=367

£133.95 for the 2.5 inch thick version ( they also do 5cm )

Another vote for Zonesleep. It is expensive but worth it for a good nights snooze!

Bought a sheepskin topper for upstairs mattress & we sleep like babies!

We found the downstairs bed uncomfortable at first, but if you sleep with head toward the front of the cab, it's much better. That said, we bought a topper for it anyway!

I was slightly put off by the cost of the Duvalay, so had foam cut by an online company to fit (including a corner cut out for the back end). I then bought the Duvalay zip-up sheet to cover it and, voila - a really comfortable roll up mattress for about £75! I just roll it up using a couple of straps and it either goes in the top half of the boot, or can travel on the back seat, if there is no-one else on it.

I can't remember which company cut the foam for me, but a quick google search was all I did. Many of them specialise in making cushions for boats and caravans etc so you can choose the thickness, type as you wish.

When I used the van on my own (blissful peace, without the wife and kids!) I even put the roll-up upstairs for some extra luxury.

CD

We got a £40 one from Aldi a couple of weeks ago and used it in the top last week. Really made a big difference to the comfort.
Next time we'll give it a run downstairs to see what it's like.
It may get too hot in the summer and if it does then we'll consider splashing out on a Zonesleep.
Just a shame it won't live in the top with the roof down.

Ok we have all spent 40-50k on our vehicles and have the most uncomfortable beds ever, we have now had to buy additional toppers for comfort :crazy

Should we not be pointing this out to VW that what is supplied is not acceptable for the money we have spent.

The worst part of the Cali design must be the downstairs bed setup which takes up most of the boot space carrying around the metal frame and mattress, being of a German design surley the bed could have been integrated within the rear seat.

I do hope the T6 Cali will have all of the issues resolved because as it stands at the moment you can't beat the comfort of our Splitscreen which is nearly 50 years old :D

:thanks

Good point. I think the problem is the bed has to double up as a crash tested rear seat for passengers to travel long distances in relative comfort. I think their minds are more on safety
Than comfort. I had a rock n roll bed in my last t5 conversion that was basically foam
Comfortable to sleep on but you couldn't sit on it for long without getting a back ache

One of the main factors in us choosing a cali over a convert was the "proper" back seat. Rock and roll beds are OK beds but terrible seats, also a pain in the bum for loosing seat belt ends or seat belts getti g tangled.

Adding a posh crash tested bed to a conversion adds around 2000 quid.

Add that to the base van with good spec and the cali is a bargain (ish)

I disagree, I found the RIB seat/bed far more comfy in seating position than a Cali, nice and deep, you don't feel perched like you do on most others. It's the main reason I didn't buy a Cali.

I think it's okay - yes it IS annoying having to spend more on a topper but it needs to be a solid, safe seat too - the fact it's a seat, slides back and forth and makes a bed is a pretty hard thing to get right. That and getting a roof cover (essential IMO) are both irritating but once you have them, it doesn't really matter too much IMO. A Cali is a mobile house - we don't all moan if we need an extra mattress in our homes… A comfy lower bed would be too thick and soft I reckon. The Zonesleep topper takes up very little room and despite the delivery hiccups often associated with being an "early adopter" I'm SO glad I bought one of those and not the £350 Brandrup topper I was considering. The Zonesleep, with a bag, is nearly the same price having having seen the Brandrup item with it's enormous bulk and sweaty memory foam, it's in a far superior product.

Having both : the brandrup for downstairs and the Zonesleep for upstairs, I wouldn't be so sure. I find the Brandrup to be pretty comfy...

Not much said here about the VW comfort mattress which is listed in my 2012 brochure.
I ordered this to come as an extra with my bus,I wasn't sure at the time if I done right, but I'm so pleased with it.
It comes stored folded on the rear parcel shelf, once seating is pulled into bed mode the mattress is then pulled in one go into position, really comfortable to sleep on....quality product.
Anyone else use these ? :D
