Vehicle
Cali now sold
My van is due into Volkswagen for the roof corrosion fix tomorrow.
Having spoken to Listers in Coventry, i have been told i need to pay a £12 per day insurance premium. Obviously I'm not at all happy and don't see why i should pay this as my van is being taken away for a manufacturing defect.
I have spoken to VWCS who are apparently looking into the matter, but still have no information back from them, even after 3 telephone calls today.
Again VWCS is complete dog turd and has instantly made my mind up about buying another California. No chance at the minute...!!!

Anyone else come across this...?

Yes. Common scam. Check you Car Insurance. Mine will give me Comprehensive Cover for any vehicle lent by Garage while vehicle undergoing routine service, repairs or warranty repairs/upgrades. I just take the policy document in, they photocopy it for their records and away I go.

I totally agree with you The cost is down to VW but when you call your dealer he says not my problem , call VW CS they are another link in the chain and take 3 days to return a call every time you call them
I would have expected you would have been given a Loan California they must of had a number as they have just been released for sale
Its fine to rate your dealer but how do people rate VWSC do away with them and let the dealer deal directly with VW in Germany then you would see an improvement
How many times have you had a common problem that many other people have had but when you call CS they tell you oh never heard of that problem and lie though there teeth last post has indicated they wont buy another how bad is that
We have a good product yes things go wrong as with anything is it time we elected a spokesperson sort out a better service and a more helpful VWCS

Yep, you can use your own insurance. I've done this with VW dealer courtesy cars before, just show them your insurance docs that say you are covered to drive other cars.

Iam sure most insurance that lets you drive other vans/cars on your policy only covers you for 3rd party use. But worth checking.
When we had the old T5 roof repair and VW supplied another Cali for the 2 week repair it included full insurance withno excess.

I checked my insurance company. Covered third party only. Don’t fancy having £43000 potential debt on my hands.

VWCS finally got back to me today. The charge has been sorted and I won’t need to pay it on this occasion.
Possibly the van centre has had a change of heart. Which is a decent thing. So fingers crossed I should be dropping off the Cali tomorrow.

I’m not getting a Cali as replacement. It’s a Caravelle. I can live with that providing it’s just for a couple of weeks.

Mine is definitely Fully Comprehensive for Garage Loan Vehicles given for Servicing, non-accident repairs and warranty work.

could well be the same for me if you are still with the CMC.

I have 3 vehicles Cail Beach, Golf, and a work van
Only the Golf policy covers driving other vehicles on third party.
Camper van policies I was told do not offer third party as standard.
Commercial van insurance is just a total rip off thinking all van drivers are bad drivers.

I paid the £12. Yes, my own car insurance would cover me but only 3rd party, and even though I consider myself to be a good driver and don't make a habit of crashing into things (in fact have only ever backed into one thing ever - a tree stump - a long time ago) I wouldn't want to take the chance on ending up with a bill in the four figures or more. I suppose since it was a warranty job I could have justifiably complained, but tbh I'd rather keep a good relationship with the dealership - we've already had 3 warranty jobs after 10 months of ownership, and so there are another 2 and a bit years of warranty time left. I need my dealership not to groan every time I phone up with yet another warranty problem. I know this is unjust, but I living in the real world sometime is.

I explained (yesterday in fact) to my VW centre that I would not pay since my visit was to rectify faults under warranty. Would they like me to submit the fuel receipts for the diesel covering four trips between the centre and home?

You see, I'd love to say that, but would worry about the reception I'd get next time I phone up for the next warranty job (and they seem to be coming thick and fast with our vehicle) ...... you are morally quite right, but I just want an easy passage through the system. In an ideal world, these things would be offered before we had to ask and everybody would do the right thing, but I'm straying into a Utopian situation here ... I've been listening to too much party conference radio this week, obviously!

If the vehicle was made with any durability, there would be no need to visit in the first place. Fully agree with John, its warranty work/manufacturing defects that have caused you to head back to the dealership. They should be looking after customers and supplying a replacement vehicle FOC. It touches like this, that will win repeat custom IMO.

My vehicle has been delivered to the garage and i now have a courtesy vehicle with no charge, in its place. I still have the inconvenience of not having my California. But at least they are trying to finally make good.

On a plus note, got a Petrol T6 Caravelle to try out and test:thumb

Took my T6 in for a few jobs yesterday and was given a courtesy vehicle and when completing the loan paperwork was told that the £10 insurance didn't apply as it was a warranty repair.
Did have a £250 excess if any claim made though, makes a bit more care needed with a different van (Caddy Max Highline)

It's disturbing to hear that you've had so many warranty jobs in such a short time! What were they all for, dare I ask?? :Nailbiting

Nothing terrible, just niggles. First our sliding window wouldn't close after it was opened for the first time, so that had to be replaced. Then the servo which pulls the side door closed stopped working. That was a big job and they had it in for four days and had to take half the van apart to sort it. Then the tap stopped working and they that took two days to fix. However, it was all done free of charge and with a smile, which makes any problems seem a lot less stressful. It's not my only vehicle, so not a mammouth problem, and the local garage is only about 10 miles away, so not too arduous. If I'd had to go back to the dealer I bought from that often, which is about 50 miles away, I might not have been so happy, but there is a cali specialist at our local place so that's fine. Hopefully by the end of the 3 yr warranty everything which is going to niggle will have niggled by then!

I was offered a free courtesy van, but the excess for any damage was much higher than £250, and I baulked at the thought of borrowing a car and ending up with a bill in excess of four figures, so paid the £12 damage waiver premium.

Mine is in tomorrow, they tried to delay it as no Caddy Life that I was promised so have agreed Id take any van as its just to keep me mobile. Had already checked with comfort insurance who are my provider and they would cover me, flly comprehensive for a loan vehicle, but only for 7 days and the van is due in for 3 weeks! Spoke to Dealer (Cordwallis) and they confirmed that nothing to pay and I'll be covered on their inurance as its a warrantee issue.

My roof was done quite a while ago Listers/ Shorade and no-one ever asked me to pay anything - they dropped off a new Cali for me to use and and took mine away ....then brought it back when done
maybe things have changed
I have had a courtesy vehicle from Listers (once it was an awful Caddy)several times, I have never been asked for insurance or to payanthing just show my driving licence...

Oh no, I’m booked in for November, after a 3 year wait! Originally I was told by VW ( I was in Sussex at the time) they would collect from home with a low loader and exchange with courtesy California, Coventry have told me I will probably get a belingo or van similar!, they haven’t mentioned additional payment yet, am not happy

So it looks like VW have gone back on their promise, when our repair was done we had a nice AA man turn up at our house and left us with a brand new California with just 30 miles on the clock, we even was able to request a DSG as I only have an automatic license. In the end our van was away for six weeks and we put over 3000 miles on the loan Cali as we had a trip down to Lake Como. We did not have to pay any extra for insurance.

Mine went in a few weeks ago. I had to drive it to Southampton before it was transported to Newbury. No Calis available. I was offered a T5 van but decided to accept a Caddy van. It was away 17 days. The work was unacceptable so it's going back in next month. Happy days!

Just out of interest, how did the job turn out, we have front and back corrosion on roof and front panel and just wondering whether it's worth it, it's hardly noticeable, hearing all the things on here re sealant etc it's worrying it will come back worse. Plus we really don't get on with our dealer the same as above, they never return calls and I'm always chasing them about other issues! Do I cancel?
