DAB conversion

Hi folks

Picking up our new Cali in March!! Can't wait - I'm like a child on Christmas Eve! My current car has DAB radio and I love it. VW have told me that the radio in our van can be converted by changing the aerials via the drivers wing mirror. Does anyone have any experience of this? Is it worth it? Is there an equivalent or simpler way of doing it (apart from buying a little DAB radio)? Views/experience gratefully received.

Thanks
Richard

It might turn out to be a little more complicated than perhaps you've been lead to believe.

Yes, the antenna are in the door mirror so you'd need to source the antenna and then fit it and you'd then need the DAB capable head unit.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I take it the head unit is the actual radio?? So, I'd be paying a new radio as well...

Yes, because if your factory radio was DAB capable from the factory then the DAB antenna would be fitted.

Richard,

I've got a DAB capable 310 that I keep meaning to get around to putting up for sale. Only did a few weeks service in our 2012 Cali until we had Hazzy Dayz fit an RNS510 (no DAB option with satnav - but there is now for 2013 vehicles so hopefully Hazzy Dayz will soon be able to get DAB back in my Cali)

It'll be much cheaper than new from VW.

Hi Simon,
Have you sold the 310DAB yet?

Steve

I recently saw a DAB retrofit antenna that stuck to the window on the inside that would be ideal.

Just picked up our Cali!! But they failed to retrofit a DAB radio - they tried everything, but weren't happy with the signal.

Dont worry, I'm sure it can still be done. You can take it to someone like Hazzy Dayz or SatNavSystems, oth are VW Audi retrofit specialists, if you live down south. They do call outs too.

I have a kenwood satnav plus dab unit. It has a small antenna stuck onto the inside of the windscreen. Reception is great! Seems like a lot less faff than a wing mirror one.

Guys,
I've just had a 510DAB, BT and MDI fitted. I've taken pics and will post them and my thoughts at some point this week. I went with the windscreen aerial.

Great news.

I'm sat in Hazzy Dayz at the moment. They say they can retrofit the DAB arial in the drivers door mirror. When asked the cost the answer came back "a lot"

Have Fun

I used "Advanced In-Car" in Poole. They said the same!
